"Dinner was delicious." I tell the family as we sit down on the couch later that evening. Emma and Jill thank me before I turn towards the bag besides me.
"Time for presents." I say with a smile. "Oh Lizzy! You didn't have to." Glenn says, taking a sip of his drink. "No she has, or else she wouldn't be allowed in the house." Emma says.
"Emma!" Jill says with a laugh. I give Em her present. "New pointe! Thank you so much!" Emma says happily, engulving me in a hug.
"It's also from Ben. It was my idea but he helped me pick them and helped me search for the right size." Emma smiled, also grabbing Ben in a hug.
I gave Glenn some special beer from the places we've been and Jill some accessories for in home. "I'm still sorry for not giving you guys something." I said, looking over at Nick and Kate.
They smiled at me, telling me it is okay. "Emma, Lizzy, help me in the kitchen for a bit?" Kate asks getting up. Emma and I nod as we follow her into the kitchen.
"So, how is being engaged to Ben?" Kate asks as she grabs three glasses. I sigh, leaning against the kitchen counter as I started fidgeting with the ring.
"We're not relly engaged, just promised to each other, and that's already scary enough." I say as Emma fills the glasses with coke.
Emma hands me one of the glasses and leans against the counter besides me. "Why?" She asks. I let out a small laugh, looking up at the two girls.
"I love Ben, I really do. But.. I'm only 17, and already knowing who you're gonna marry one day. It's like my whole future is already planned out, it's just scary to imagine me growing up with Ben." Kate smiles at me, putting down her glass.
"Then why did you say yes?" She asks. I look back at the ring, a smile spreading across my face. "Because even though it is something I'm terrified about, I can't see myself having a future without him."
Emma laughs grabbing a bowl to make some snacks. "I get why you are scared. But you're in a Broadway touring productions! You have no idea what tomorow may bring you. And marrying with somebody maybe sounds scary, but like you said, you're only 17. You have a whole life infront of you, you just get to live it with the one you love." She says.
"If you put it like that.." I start. Kate laughs, pushing me out of the kitchen. "Go grab a film, we'll be back in a minute with the snacks." I chuckle as I walk back into the living room.
I look over at Ben who was blankly staring at the ground, just like that one time in the airplane... I put down my glass and kneel down infront of him.
"Hey Ben, you okay?" I ask, putting my hands on his knees. "Ben?" I ask again after not receiving an answer. I looked him in the eyes, but he didn't even notice I was even there.
"Is he okay?" I look up and see Nick looking at us with a worried expression. "I-I don't know. He behaved earlier like this, but it went over eventually so I didn't think much of it." I say, Ben still not responding to his surroundings.
Nick walks over to us and waves his hand infront of him. "What did you do last time to get him out of it?" Nick asks, kneeling down besides me.
I feel my cheeks getting red as I turned towards him. "I kissed him.." I mumble. "Well go ahead and be his prince charming." Nick says with a laugh. My cheeks turn a deeper red, his parents walking towards us, also getting concerned about their son now.
I swallow once before kissing Ben softly. He instantly turns towards me, completely pale, his eyes wide open. "Are you alright?" I ask softly. "I eh-" he starts, but can't find the right words.
"Wanna talk in your room?" I ask him, he slowly nods, getting up and walking upstairs. I looked behind me at his family, still deeply concerned. What's wrong with him?
"Hey, what's going on?" I ask Ben a few moments later. Ben frowns, looking up at me. "Nothing critical." He says, fidgeting with the sleeves of his sweater.
"Is it a common thing?" I ask, sitting next to him. "What do you mean?" He looked really confused. "You were just in a trans, I was wondering if it occurs more." Ben frowns, he doesn't seem to get it.
I stare at him for a few seconds as he keeps on fidgeting with his sleeves, not looking up. A few seconds past before Ben suddenly speak up. "Can you shut up for a second!! I didn't do it!! Not yet!! And I don't want to!!" He yells suddenly.
I back away, scared of the sudden tension. "Why are you yelling at me?" I ask, not getting what I did wrong. Ben looks up and sighs. "I would never yell at you Lizzy, I'm yelling at that ma-" but as soon as Ben was about to say who he was yelling at he realized there was no one there with them.
"No one's here Ben.." I slowly say. "But, I just heard them talk?" Ben looked really confused now. "What did they say?" I ask, playing along. I hear some rumour at the door and when I look behind me I saw Nick standing in the doorway.
"They , they said I ha- why can't I tell her?" He asks, but stops again when he notices no one is there. Ben groans grabbing his head while looking back at his feet.
As he does so a small piece of skin of his arm appears. I frown, taking Ben's right arm. "What are you doing?" He asks, suddenly very aware of his surroundings. I ignore him and pull up his sleeve, only to find his whole arm covered in small cuts.
