Addison's POV
It all started with that night.
We were all together at a party.
The party was starting to die down when my boyfriend Liam went searching for Matthew and me.
I was standing in the kitchen with Matthew when Liam walked over.
I could barely stand at this point though. I had so many drinks that I lost count of them.
"Are you guys ready to go?" Liam asked us.
"Yeah. Let's go" Matthew said.
After a couple minutes
Matthew took me by my arm and walked me to Liam's car. Liam had already left to get the car running. I was giggling the whole way to the car. People were staring at me and probably wondering what the hell I was on.
"Matty? Why is everyone staring at me?" I asked him.
"Because you are laughing like an idiot"
"I'm not laughing at all" I said while holding my laugh in.
"Addison?" I heard from behind me.
"Oh hey Bella. Are you guys gonna leave soon?" I asked.
"Yeah but we need a ride. Tyler said he wasn't gonna get drunk but just look at him"
Matthew and I looked over to Tyler who was on the couch passed out.
"Can we get a ride?" Bella asked with a smile.
"Sure. I don't think Liam would mind" Matthew answered.
"Great. I'll get Tyler to wake up" Bella said while walking over to Tyler.
"Can I get a ride too?" I heard from behind me.
"No way Carter. Liam will get mad" I said.
"Why would your boyfriend get mad?" Carter asked with a smirk.
"Remember what happened last time?"
"No I don't remember. Refresh my memory"
"You kissed me"
"No. We kissed. You kissed me back"
"I was drunk Carter. Besides, Liam saw that you kissed me first"
"Whatever. That happened a few months ago. He probably forgot about it"
"Alright then" I said.
A few minutes later
As we all walked to Liam's car, I started to drift off until Matthew woke me up.
"Hey. Don't sleep yet. You need to tell Liam that Carter is coming with us"
"Fine" I said while pouting.
When we reached Liam's car, I sat in the front passenger seat with Matthew while Carter, Tyler, and Bella sat in the backseats.
"Why is he here?" Liam asked annoyed.
"He needed a ride home babe"
"There are so many other people who could have driven him home"
"Actually, everyone already went home. Just please drop me off at my house" Carter said pleading.
"Fine. But don't you dare get near my girlfriend" Liam said.
After 10 mins of driving
Bella, Tyler, and Carter were all sleeping while Matthew and Liam were talking to each other. I was drifting off to sleep but I was also trying to listen to their conversation.
"So I heard that you got accepted into Princeton. Congrats man" Liam said to Matthew with a smile.
"Thanks Liam. I never thought that I would get into my dream college"
"Why not? You are the smartest person that I know. I just knew that you will get into one of the best universities out there"
"Yeah but I'll have to leave you guys. I don't want to do that" Matthew said sadly.
"Don't worry. We'll see each other every chance we get. We'll go visit you and you'll come visit us"
"Great idea. But anyways, your anniversary is coming up" Matthew said with a smile
"I know. Can you believe we have been dating for almost 5 years?"
"It's crazy. I thought that one of you might mess it up at some point but you guys stayed together and are more in love than ever"
"She's the whole reason why I wanted a better life for myself. I was nothing before I met her. I was just a drunk idiot who skipped classes all the time. But when she came into my life, she made me realize that what I was doing was wrong. I'm so thankful to have her in my life"
"That was beautiful dude. I'm gonna really miss her. She made my life better too. She always pushed me to follow my dreams and make something out of myself. She, like you, also thought that I'll get into the best university out there"
"It's because we both believe in you. We know you will go on to do great things in life"
"Thanks bro. It means a lot to me to hear you say that" Matthew said with a huge smile on his face.
Then it happened
We were driving down a highway when all of a sudden, we spiraled out of control and hit the concrete wall that was on that highway. It all happened so fast.
The next thing I remember was waking up in a hospital bed.
I looked around the room. My eyes landed on my mom. She was fast asleep in the chair that was near my bed.
I then looked around again. This time, my eyes landed at the door. Someone was standing at the door.
I soon recognized the person. It was Bella.
"Hey. How you feeling?" she asked me
"I'm fine. Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Just a few cuts and bruises" she said but with a sad expression
"What's wrong?" I asked concerned.
"It's Matthew"
"What's wrong with Matthew?"
"He's.....he's...." she said with tears in her eyes
"He's what?"
"He's dead Addy. He's dead"
Just then, everything went black.
A few days later at school
Addison's POV
Everything is still fuzzy about what happened that night.
I can't exactly remember why the car crashed into the wall.
Everything is just a blur.
"Addy" I heard from behind me.
"Hey Carter"
"Where is Liam?"
"He's still at the hospital"
"Are you still with him?" Carter asked curiously.
"Of course Carter. Why wouldn't I be?"
"He's a murderer Addison. He killed his best friend!" Carter said angrily.
"Not on purpose. He didn't mean to do it"
"Yet Matthew is still dead. Your boyfriend should have been arrested"
With that, Carter walked away down the hall.
I hate this. It was not Liam's fault. He didn't kill Matthew on purpose. Why can't Carter get that through his thick skull?
I walked down the hall until I reached my next class. I sat down in a chair at the front of the room.
"Hi everyone" Ms. Robinson said. "As you all know, Matthew died in a car accident a few days ago"
Whispers filled up the room. I heard someone say "No, he was killed". That made me so angry.
"He wasn't killed" I yelled out. "We crashed. It wasn't anybody's fault"
"It was your boyfriend's fault. He was probably drunk" a redhead girl said.
"He wasn't drunk. You weren't even there to see what happened"
"He was at my party Addy. I saw him walk in and he probably started drinking at that point" Taylor said.
"He doesn't drink anymore. He's not the same person as before" I said furiously.
"Stop defending a killer Addison. He's nothing but a lowlife drunk" a blonde haired boy said.
I was beyond mad at this point. I grabbed my stuff and walked out of the classroom.
I went straight to the exit and then I walked to my car.
I got in and I put my head on the steering wheel. I was so tired at this point. I didn't know what to do. Liam will probably get mad at me for leaving school so early.
It didn't matter though. I want to go see him. He will know exactly what to say to make me feel better.
At the hospital
I walked in the direction of Liam's room. I opened the door and closed it behind me.
"Hey baby. Why are you here so early?" Liam asked.
I tried to respond to him but no words were coming out of my mouth.
"Baby? Are you okay?" He asked concerned
"I'm fine" I replied weakly.
"Come here" Liam said as he opened his arms for a hug.
I walked over to him and hugged him back. My eyes became watery and I felt a few tears roll down my cheeks.
"What happened?"
"People. They are just so annoying" I said sadly.
"What did they do?"
"Everyone keeps saying that you're a murderer and that you killed Matthew because you were drunk"
"Baby, you need to listen to me carefully. You can't let people's words get to you. You need to be strong. You have to show everyone that you can make it through this situation. You know that I didn't kill Matthew on purpose. It was an accident"
"I can't be strong Liam" I said while crying in my hands.
"You can Addy. If I can do it, so can you. I believe in you. I know you can do it. I just need you to believe in yourself. Please baby, do it for me?"
"Okay Liam. I promise you that I'm gonna be strong"
"Thank you love. You'll see. Tomorrow will be a new day."
With that, Liam kissed me passionately.
I can do this.
