Heian Era

It was a beautiful and joyous day in the palace. Finally after years of waiting patiently and miserably for the crown prince to arrive he finally did.

That sunny and warm day, people of nobility and peasantry crowded together in the palace gates to see the infant prince.

The royal couple had been trying for years to bear a child. It was hard for the empress to get pregnant but finally after 10 years into the royal marriage she felt the symptoms of pregnancy and after 9 months the beautiful prince was born.

The emperor had rejoiced of the birth of his son and only heir.
He felt it was only right for his subjects to share the glorious day with the royal family.

The empress agreed with this and opened the whole imperial palace to the people. It was a beautiful sight.

They named the child Tsukihiko. As he is as pale but as radiant as the moon. He had a really plum colored eyes that made the empress really glad.

Foods swarmed, carried by slaves and palace assistants. The emperor released old court ladies that deserved to live the rest of their lives outside the palace walls. They celebrated, ate and were merry until an old fool came.

"You are all rejoicing for the birth of a crown prince... A crown prince that will bring forth darkness and destruction among the land." He said in a loud and horrified voice that brought silence to the dining hall.

All but the emperor looked horrified of this proclamation.
"Hahahaha humor me old man. How could a prince that looked so beautiful and radiant bring such evil and cruel things you speak of?" The emperor asked and didn't believe what the old fool said.

"He will grow sick and plague all of us in a short time. He won't be able to govern his people in a way an emperor should. A regent should reign in his place." The fool answered.

This angered the emperor greatly. The empress holding the sleeping prince was scared of this proclamation. No... It seemed a curse.

The emperor ordered the palace guards to seize him and he was not struggling like a normal soon to be prisoner would.

"I won't fight my fate as it is written already. You should disown him as your child!" The old fool screamed and this just angered the emperor more.

He went to one of the guards and took a katana from one of them. He approached the old mumbling fool and he lashed out at his head. Beheading him. The people who attended the banquet shivered in fear. For their emperor never lashed in anger before.

"Let this be a warning for all of you who dares to oppose and threaten the prince! A threat to the prince is a threat to me and my reign!" He announced. He asked the slaves to clean the bloody mess.

The merry making continued but the people in the banquet didn't forget the cruelty they witnessed. For emperor Tsukihito never was a cruel man. But he defended his throne and family intensely.

The empress sat there holding her baby in her arms. She was scared. Scared of what her husband might figure out about her in the following days. She was debating whether to tell her husband or not.

Empress Hoshiko stayed in her chambers for the rest of the day. She didn't let prince Tsukihiko out of her sight even for a second. She was thinking of a solution because she knew that this event will stir up a problem in the near future.

She looked at the bundle of joy she had on the bed. She will not let anyone harm her child. Physically or mentally. She called for a doctor, a family doctor that they trusted for years.

"Your Majesty, it's a pleasure and an honor to have been called by you in the palace." The doctor greeted her with enthusiasm.
"Dr. Tsuyun... I trust you've heard something about what happened in the banquet." The queen started.

"Yes my empress. About prince Tsukihiko." He answered.
"I want my child to be immune to any kind of disease from now on. I want you to find different supplements that will hinder any kind of harsh illnesses. It will go to the prince's body." She said and handed him a big satchel of gold coins.

"Your Majesty... I will do my best to defend the prince in any kind of sickness." He said taking the coins.

And then she went to have a chat with a known sorceress.
"Ai..." She called to her.
"Empress Hoshiko... It's a pleasure to have you in my humble abode." The young sorceress bowed and greeted her.

"I have a great problem about my son... Prince Tsukihiko is cursed by this old fool that came into the banquet. And I really hope you have a cure for this."  She said in a desperate tone.

"Do you believe what that old fool said? That the prince will bring darkness and destruction?" She asked and the queen thought for a while.

"Empress Hoshiko... I know that you are worried about what the oracle told you years ago but I already casted a protection and gave you a charm to ward it." She said holding the hands of the royal.

"When I get any sign that my protection was in any way destroyed or breeched I will tell you. And I will find a solution for it. I promise." She smiled at her and tried to calm her down.

The empress somehow got reassured for the time being and went back to the palace. Where her husband Emperor Tsukihito was waiting in her chambers.

"That trip took you a while." He said while cuddling his heir. He was playing with the little prince.

"Your Majesty... I apologise if that took long. I visited a friend." She said and bowed.
"It's alright. Hoshiko... I told you to call me Tsukihito if we are alone." He smiled at her and put the child down.

"Sit next to me love..." He said in the most loving way. Empress Hoshiko proceeded to sit next to him and he held her.
"Were you scared of what happened in the banquet?" He asked and she just shook her head.

"No. It's just that, I'm scared of what might happen to Tsukihiko. He is our son. We never know what might happen." She said.

"Don't fret. He'll turn out just fine love." He reassured his empress. Because like any other parent he wants to ensure his child's safety in the palace.
