8 years later...

Muzan Kibutsuji's pov:

I am sick and tired of this life. I hated being sick and not able to live my life the way it should be. I had a doctor. A doctor who is experimenting on me for the longest time. I threw the vase in my room and laid down. Even throwing a big vase tires me out.

I sighed. I called for my father, Riyuu.
"Muzan... Did the doctor check you yet?" He asked when we sat for tea.

"Yes. I'm checked and I don't like being a guinea pig anymore. He's... He's ruining my life." I was so disappointed. My father said that this illness made me forget the times I had 9 years after I was born but I doubt that.

The only people I had with me are my mother, father and Akira, my adopted sister who was going to be my wife in the next few years.

Akira and I are close friends ever since I was a child. We went to places together and formed a bond together.

"Muzan... My child... You're going to be 18 soon. You're going to be married to Akira are you emotionally ready?" My father asked. I thought for a while. Was I ready to be a husband? Akira and I love each other but I don't know if it's the love of a man to a woman vice versa.

"I don't know. She's... She seems not to have the same feelings for me." I tried to lie.
"Son... She does. And I'm telling you she's the most suitable woman for you." He said after sipping tea.

"What about what I feel? What if I don't have feelings for her?"
"It'll be present in due time, Muzan. It won't be an easy journey but I'm sure you'll love her." He assured me. I trusted my father and those who surrounds me. But this is a choice of the heart. And I do have someone else in mind.

"Do you already like someone else?" He asked me and ate a bit of the snacks that was brought in.
"I do. And she's also suitable for me father. If only you'd retract your order and let me marry her instead." I insisted.

"No. You'll marry Akira and you'll be happy with her. She will take care of you and this family in the time being that you're still sick. Please just trust me on this and comply." He insisted. I sighed.

I liked Hinami. Hinami Yokuda. She's been there more than Akira was. But why does my father don't like her for me?

Hinami has been my best friend and confidant for years. 9 years. And yet... I sighed. Maybe it's time to break up things with her. But even though she's not going to be my wife I'll try to do things for my family.

I fall asleep that night thinking of what my life would be with Akira rather than Hinami.

Riyuu's pov:

I didn't want Hinami for him. Hinami Yokuda is a traitor's daughter and doesn't deserve to be married to a prince.

Prince Tsukihiko forgot what happened 8 years ago. His memories are now all gone. His name and family seems to have been erased from existence. To ensure his safety I had his name changed to Muzan with my family name. Making him my son.

I sighed. If only he was in the palace right now he won't be calling a merchant a father. He will be the next emperor and his father would've been so proud. He would be happy with Hinami.

That bag contained as much gold as I can count. Maybe 10 satchels of gold was there concealed by the royal robes he once had.

I can't bear to tell him the bitter truth that I'm not his father and he should call me uncle. He might not speak to me anymore.

I looked at the bag the emperor told me to bring when Merin went in. She looked worried.

"Riyuu... Love... Are you thinking about that again?" She asked and held my hand.
"I just can't imagine that I failed to protect his Majesty back then. I should've stayed." I sadly said.

"You followed his order to save the prince. Prince Tsukihiko is alive and that's what's more important now." She said consoling me.

We were having a chat about the deceased emperor and the prince when the door creaked. Someone was eavesdropping.

I looked at the door and was surprised to see it was Muzan.
"I thought that emperor Tsukihito and prince Tsukihiko is nothing more than a story to tell kids at night." He said as tears formed in his eyes.

"Son... This is not what it looks like." I said and he just said stood there.
"The reason why I cannot be with Hinami is that she's that advisor's daughter? That she cannot be my wife? I want to be happy with her, father!" He shouted and ran.

Muzan's pov:

I was devastated. I was fed lies and was deprived of the truth. My father and mother are now dead.

I flung the front door open and I was surprised that the shinning sun burned my skin. It was painful.

I rushed back in and noticed that I was getting stronger. What happened? I'm invincible now. Well... That's partly true. I can't withstand the sun as of the moment.

I cooped up in my room until my next doctor appointment. When he came I told him that it wasn't even effective.m, and I demanded more.

"But my Lord... The flower was the last of its kind. I can't possibly look for-" that was the end of his babbling. I killed him with the axe I hid.

Blood splattered. But I didn't care now. I want to have more of it. Or at least know where it's found. Ah... Wrong move.

I asked the servants to clean the mess while I plan my next move. I will escape to the night bringing every single heirloom I have.

No one's pov:

As the night came, Muzan still not talking to his parents gathered every jewelry, money and assets his father had.

He tried to escape but his father's men managed to follow him on his way to Hinami's home secretly.

As he knocked on the door, a sleepy Hinami greeted him.
"Muzan? What's the matter? Did something terrible happened that you came here this late at night?" She asked the young man.

"Let's flee, Hinami. You see... My father don't want us to be together. But if you come with me... I'm sure we can work something out." He told her.

But in a split second Hinami was struck with an arrow in her neck.
"Hinami! Who dared to do this to you?" He cradled the bloody girl in his arms.

At that moment he noticed that the arrow that was  used to hit her was poisoned.
"Hinami... Please stay with me. You can do this." He said cradling the weak girl.

"Mu-zan... I'm so...rry." she muttered and took her final breath.
The young man was devastated. He cried his eyes out as he held his lover's dead body.

In his rage he summoned a great force that wiped out his father's men and everyone in Yokuda's residence.

He buried the remains of the dead in the house but left his father's men to rot. He was going to Akira. He wasn't in the mood to get married to the woman he loves now and he's prepared to bury the feelings of love when he reached the house of Akira.

He was shocked to see her in the arms of another man. She was cheating on him.
"M-Mu...Muzan... Why're you here?" She asked and his plum red eyes glowed an evil glint.

"I was about to say that... The woman I loved died. And I will marry you. But it seems to me that no wedding will occur." He said and in a flash all that was left of the two were ashes.

Muzan's pov:

From this moment on... I will hone my powers. And I will kill everyone who dares to look down on me. I'm no longer that sweet prince that they know. I'm no longer that weakling.
