Ryder's P.O.V
Football practice was a drag. It doesn't help that I was distracted the whole time either. All thanks to Leigh, making me think of her all the time. Coach kept me after practice to figure out what was wrong with me. I told him it was nothing, and that I was just tired. His instructions were to go home and do nothing, and take a break and sleep. Little does he know that I've already made plans for tonight.
Tonight is my movie date with Leigh. I'm not sure what movie we're gonna end up seeing. I want us to watch a horror movie, but I know Leigh hates them. There is this one she's been talking about seeing however. I think it's called Ouija. Leigh said that conjuring spirits and possession facinates her. Not quite sure why, but everybody has something that interests them.
I grabbed my laptop off the end of my bed and checked movie times. They have a Ouija showing at 7:30 and 9:45. The 9:45 seems more appealing, but I have football practice in the morning, and coach will be pissed if I'm as bad as I was today.
Glancing down at the time on my laptop, it read 5:30. I had an hour and a half before I had to go pick up Leigh. I walked over to my dresser, grabbed some clothes, and went to take a shower. There was mud caked on me, and my hair was damp from sweating. It was hot and humid out from the rain we got last night, and when it rains, the field turns in to a mud pool. I felt like a pig during practice.
Turning the water on, I stripped off my clothes, and stepped in the shower. I just stood there for a couple minutes letting the hot water loosen up the now dried mud, so it would be easier to wash off. Once I got it all off, I washed my face and hair. When I was sure I was clean, I got out of the shower, dried off, and got dressed. Just some jeans, a black v neck, and a blue and black flannel shirt. I paired it with my all black high top converse. I quickly towel dried my hair, and gelled it up like I usually do.
I got about halfway down the stairs before I smelled whatever my mom was cooking in the kitchen.
"Hey Ryder. What are you all dressed up for?"
"I have a date tonight." I said enthusiastically
"With who? You never mentioned a date."
"Leigh." I could feel my face getting redder by the second, and I couldn't stop a smile from forming on my face.
"Really. You guys haven't hung out in a while. Why the change? Do you like her Ryder?"
"I don't think so mom. Why would you think that?"
"I remember when you two were younger. You two would go to the park and when you would come home, she's all you'd ever talk about. You even admitted to me that you had a crush on her."
"That was a long time ago mom. How old was I? Five, maybe 6."
"You were 13 my dear."
"That's still a long time ago. That's almost 5 years ago. Things have changed."
"Apparently they have. So, what time is your date?"
"7 is when I'm picking her up."
"Then you better eat. Grab a plate."
I grabbed a plate out of the cabinet, and started filling it with the food on the stove. Mom made chicken, rice, and vegetables. Once my plate was full, I sat down at the table, only to endure more interrogation. Thanks to my dear mother.
"What will you two be doing on this date?" I looked at her as if I was saying 'really mom'.
"Don't look at me like that. I'm just curious."
"We're going to the movies. Before you ask what movie we're seeing, we're going to see Ouija."
"Isn't that a scary movie?"
