Acid Fog

My legs were burning from running for so long, but the only pain that mattered was the gaping hole in my heart from Jaspers death.

We all walked slowly towards camp, Octavia leaning on Finn since I couldn't bear to be around her. A part of me, as wrong as it is, blames her for Jaspers death.

I couldn't look her in the eyes without seeing Jaspers lifeless body.

"Where's the food?" Bellamy asked incredulously as we entered camp. Everybody got up from what they were doing to come see what was going on.

"We were attacked." I heard Clarke saying, but I was more focused on getting away from everyone.

My whole body was numb, and I know that people were watching me as I walked towards the trees that were opposite of all the commotion but stopped when I heard Octavia call after me.

"Angel! It's dangerous out there."

I didn't turn around, I could feel a new wave of fresh tears fall and I didn't want them to see.

"I don't care." I said simply.

"You seen what just happened with Jasper."

I quickly turned around, the pain and anger I felt fueling my words.

"Don't you dare talk about Jasper." I cried out.

I was too hurt to notice the stares from the group around me.

"It's your fault he's dead, if you hadn't made him feel like he needed to try so hard to impress you, he wouldn't have jumped in the first place."

Octavia had a dumbstruck look on her face but I just continued.

"He saved your life, but that wasn't enough, was it?"

"I- I'm" Octavia stammered but was cut off when I just turned around to walk away.

I ran until my I couldn't catch my breath. The only thing I could see was Jasper laying on the ground with the spear sticking out of him.

"Why aren't you sleeping, Angie? A 7 year old Jasper asked groggily from next to me.

My mom was working super late and I didn't want to be alone so Jasper and Monty came over to stay.

"I can't sleep." I said somberly.

"What's wrong?"

Jasper came over and wrapped me in a hug.

"Do you ever wonder what it's like down there?" I asked, leaning into him.

"On earth?"

"Yeah, I bet it's beautiful." I said dreamily. "I want to see the sun."

"But you see the sun everyday?"

"That's different." I sighed. "I want to feel the sunlight on my face."

"You will one day." He spoke gently. "And I'll be there with you."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

I snuggled into him, feeling safe, I fell asleep only moments after.
