I looked up at the moon with a heavy heart, if the Ark didn't see our signals then all those innocent people would die. The bright flares launched into the sky, colors of blue and purple obscured our view of the stars. I sensed someone standing next to me and looked up into Bellamys stricken face, the light illuminating the small freckles that scattered across his nose and cheeks.
"Do you think they'll work?" He looked down at me, grief clear in his eyes. "Please tell me you have hope that it will work."
I grabbed his hand. "They'll work, Bellamy. Don't lose faith."
"Thank you." He whispered so quietly that only I could hear him.
"Can you wish on this kind of shooting star?" I asked as Bellamy turned to me, his eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
The crowd slowly dispersed as the lights dimmed down to nothingness, and the night sky was pitch black again. Bellamy made no move to take his hand away and I didn't blame him. He was probably feeling guilt ridden and needed someone to be on his side. It was wrong what he did, but how was he supposed to know that over 300 hundred people were sentenced to death.
"Bellamy, don't blame yourself." I added, hoping that he wouldn't be too harsh on himself.
"This better work." Was all he said before taking his hand away and storming off. He was distressed and I could tell that he wasn't used to letting people help.
I sighed and was about to go to my tent when I saw Monty standing just a few feet in front of me, with an indecisive look on his face.
"Hi." I said softly.
"Hi." He shoved his hands in his pocket.
We stood there in awkward silence for a few seconds before I spoke up.
"I miss you."
"Thank god, I miss you too." He stepped forward and enveloped me in a tight hug. "I'm sorry."
"No, I'm sorry." I cried happily into his chest.
"Let's never fight again."
"Agreed." I laughed through my tears, refusing to let go. "Life sucked without you in it."
"I bet it did." He chuckled.
"Did my two favorite people just make up?" I heard Jasper ask from behind us.
"Yes, we did." I wiped my eyes with the sleeve of my shirt before smiling up at Monty.
"About time." Jasper exclaimed before putting his arms around mine and Montys shoulder. "The three musketeers are back, baby!"
"You're such a goof." I giggled.
"What do you guys say to a small party of 3, just us like old times?" Jasper wiggled his eyebrows suggestively. "I know Monty has some of his moonshine hidden somewhere."
"I'm down."
"Me too." Monty added. "But on one condition." His face grew serious. Jasper and I paused to look at him, curious.
"We have to do it in our tent because Angels is like super small." He snickered.
"It's cozy!" I tried to defend myself, but just ended up laughing with them.
"Deal." Jasper said before leading me toward their tent that was actually pretty big. I walked in after them and was shocked to see how roomy it was.
"Two cots?" I asked incredulously. "I don't even have one, it's not fair."
"I asked, you said you didn't mind sleeping on the ground." Monty put his hands up.
"I did, didn't I?" I grumbled playfully. Truth was, I really didn't, the ground wasn't that uncomfortable.
