This is a flashback before they got attacked

Author's Pov
"Hey guys!" Shiro called from afar. "We're here." He pushed a tree branch aside to let the others see the view of a wide open field with a small tree in the middle, regardless of how beautiful it looked there was a strange feeling to it and Keith felt that.
"I don't know Shiro." Keith scanned the field. "It looks sketchy." He added not taking his eyes off the view.
Lance snorted quirking a brow. "What so you're scared now?" He joked, but got ignored by Keith as he's still observing the area.
"Let's check it first to be safe, Keith." Shiro looked at his brother giving him permission. Keith wistled between his two fingers.
"What are you-woah!" Hunk was cut off and hid behind Lance, startled by the sudden appearance of Keiths odd looking blue wolf.
"H-how did it do that?!" Lance and Hunk whispered yelled at Shiro who was raising both his hands a little, calming the two by their close proximity.
Meanwhile Keith was explaining things to his dog like it could understand him. "Okay boy you know now what to do." He pets the wolfs head as it leans for the touch. It took a single second for them to be in the middle of the field near the small tree. They hurried towards the tree as fast as they could, Keith observed their surroundings and the wolf sniffed the air. It growled.
"They're here." Keith said looking around the edge of the field where the forest is. "How many?" Keith asked his wolf as it scratched the ground three times.

"Will the two of you calm down? We are on an important mission, and I'd like it you would stay quiet and listen." Shiro stared at the two teens who finally shut their mouths seeing the annoyed look on his face, they both nodded. "Good, now stop asking questions."
"Shiro!" Keith appeared beside his brother. "Keith, how is it?" Shiro said expectantly, his face still serious.
"About three of them, triangle form." Keith explained readying his weapon. The design of the weapon looked weird to Lance since he never saw two blades attached by a long chain before. Keith saw Lance staring at his weapon. "Kyoketsu-shoge."
"Koketsu what now?" Lance asked. Keith was about to answer when Shiro butted in giving Lance two pistols.
"You know how to use it right?" Shiro asked.
"Yes."
"Good." Shiro continued over to Hunk giving him something that is similar to a cannon ,but only a smaller version. Hunk looked worried backing up. "Um do you have any weapon besides this." Shiro took notice of Hunks behaviour. "Don't worry, it's lighter than it looks." He assured then hands it to him.

"Okay everyone, you know what to do." The three teens nodded at Shiro.
"Now, to your places." As he said that all of them were taken by kosmo putting them to their position. Shiro casually walked in the middle of the field where the tree was, no weapon in hand making him vulnerable in the eyes of their enemy.

Lance huffed finally to his place, nothing in his mind but the instructions he was given to and their strategy. The plan is simple but effective. Shiro's the bait and once all the witches goes to him, they attack. If that doesn't work they would have to proceed to plan B.
Crack
The brunette instinctively turns from behind pointing his pistol where the noise had come from. Something here just didn't stay right with Lance, there was another shuffling sound above the trees making all the leaves fall blocking his view, Lance couldn't see much to aim his pistol somewhere. Once it all cleared nothing was there.
"What the fu-aAH!" Before Lance could finish his sentence a flash of purple light passed inches away from his head. He looked up still shocked. There, standing on one of the branches holding a metal staff, a masked figure appeared.
Not a tick wasted, the fully cloaked figure took action, before Lance could process what was happening, they were already behind him. A moment delayed, Lance quickly spun around expecting another purple beam but instead he received a strong kick right on the gut, his back landing on a tree, knocking the air out of him.
"I guess it's plan B then." He wheezed. The teen took the other slightly smaller pistol putting a green ball like shape inside it, Lance covered his left ear then fired the thing above the sky hearing a whistle and a small explosion. The masked person seemed to be distracted looking at the green substance dispersing from the sky, so Lance took the chance run.

Shiro was the first to notice the green flare from the forest. He sighed. "Guess it's plan b." He was about to run toward the direction Lances' supposed position, but a flash of purple beam hit his back making him stumble, he turned around seeing a cloaked person. Both looked visibly taken aback.
"How can a human like you withstand that kind of power?!" The person gasped about to throw another of that beam to Shiro.
"Simple, I'm not like any normal human being." Shiro answered before charging towards the figure.
