Once, in the late 90s, there was a kid named Justin who was very obsessed with one thing, Spyro the dragon! All he ever brung up was how awesome he was, how cool he was, how he could beat Crash Bandicoot in his tracks even though it seemed flatly impossible. Justin liked Spyro so much his fantasy was to be just like him. His parents told him how unhealthy it was to be so obsessed and playing nothing but Spyro 1 and 2 all day until bed time after doing his homework. Soon he was imaging himself in the games with the purple dragon fighting Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto even though they were already dead-- at least to him.
Justin was a good game player but he couldn't get to all the skill points needed to find out the truth... They weren't dead. He got out of the real world and into his head very often. A year later, in 2000, Justin got Spyro 3. The boy talked about it many times and imagined fighting the sorceress, an evil villian from the game. It got so bad that his parents sent him to a psychologist. As always Justin felt energetic.
"How are you feeling today Justin?" The psychologist replied.
"Like a bunch of gems!" The boy said happily.
"That's great! So what has been bothering you?"
"Nothing at all I'm in tip top shape no broken bones or anything.
"That's not what I mean." The psychologist said kindly. "I meant what is wrong with you in here?" The psychologist pointed to her head. She was new to the job and had hardly no patience.
"My skull's not broken."
When she thought she could give up and talk to his parents she thought of another way and said,"What do you think about the most of the time?"
"Well I think about school and video games. I'm a die hard Spyro fan! He's awesome and cool as well as cocky. He can breathe fire, use magic, spit fire balls and..."
"Okay you really like this character... so how do you feel connected to him?"
Justin eyed her and said, "Can you keep a secret?"
"Of course that's why you are talking to me without your parents listening."He took a few minutes to think. He thought she would think he was crazy. Justin felt connected to Spyro by his dreams. In his dreams he saw different characters try to beat Spyro but failed without luck. He had played Spyro 1, 2 ,3 and made fanfics that were dear to him. At this rate the young boy felt really embarrassed. "Go on I'm listening." she said trying to be patient.
Justin lied and said, "I really liked this old cartoon when I was a baby. I thought it was cool... about a dragon..." He felt really embarrassed as it didn't come out right. The psychologist explained to him that he only liked the character prior to his childhood. Afterwards the boy and his parents went home and did the thing that every gamer would hate as a child, keep him from playing his favorite games. Just as the psychologist said. This was because of the daydreams that he told her so much about once he was feeling comfortable with her. He shouldn't have let those slip. He was shocked out of his mind. Why? He thought to himself. It went on for 1 month. He couldn't take it anymore. One night, he said to himself as he was in the bed tucked in, "If you were real Spyro this wouldn't have happened. You would be like the big celebrities out here."
He then fell deeply asleep.
When Justin woke up everything was dark and quiet. He felt confused and wondered what was happening. Justin walked and suddenly came to a bright light. Was this heaven? he thought. If it is I hope there's videogames in it with Spyro! The obsessed boy came closer and closer and he felt a fiery feeling in his body. It felt extremely hot. He screamed in terror as he thought he was going to die.
His body turned yellow from head to toe and his stomach turned soft and scaly. All he felt was fire as he shrunk down from his clothes and the hands went from five fingers to four claws. Snout had pushed out fast, ears turned pointy and sharp, black wings came out of the shoulder blades and grew huge. Yellow Horns grew out of his head and looked just like Spyro's as well as spine crests came out painfully in velvety red. He felt more pain as it went on and when it stopped he was out.
The dragon boy woke up on fours as he gazed around looking at the bright canvas of land and the beautiful waterfall.
Man, 32 bit graphics can really get in your head. he thought. He saw what he had glomped on for two years. Spyro and Sparx! They appeared to be looking for something. He looked in awe. "This can't be." he said to himself. He tried to stand up on twos but he couldn't. He was wondering what had happened until Sparx came up to his face.
"AAHH!!" he screamed.
"AAHH!!" the dragonfly screamed back.
The purple dragon named Spyro ran into the screaming two. "What happened? Who are you?" Spyro asked. It ended up in a deep conversation until they realized that the new yellow dragon wasn't from their world and didn't want to start any trouble.
"My name's Spyro." the purple dragon replied.
"I'm Justin and I happened to be a huge of yours where I'm from. You're one awesome video game character." The yellow dragon replied.
"What's a video game?" The dragon asked. He explained it and expected to leave the "dream". He couldn't. He was stuck in their world as what would seem to be forever. Little did he know that it was not a dream at all. It actually happened.
His parents were saddened as they realized that their little boy is now gone from them. Nowhere in his bed at all. Just gone."What could have happened?" Justin's mother asked tearfully. Justin's father looked in sadness and then in anger. He hugged his wife hoping she would calm down.
