Hey this is short, but hope you like it! It's another one from Of Sorcery and Snow.
My jeans were soaked through and my hands became numb, as the scale in my hand shrunk before my eyes. Pink light danced across the sky and reflected on the snowy planes. Snow crunched behind me, but I continued to stare at the sunset, my eyes drooping.
A blond haired, blue eyed boy plopped down next to me, bumping my shoulder in the process, and snapping me out of my trance. I turned to see Chase looking at me with those ice blue eyes.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi," I replied. We sat in silence for a while, watching the light slowly disappear. I was lost in my thoughts, thinking of the long journey ahead. We had already gone so far, suffered so much, and yet we still had so much more to go. The other night I had heard Miriam crying on her watch. We were all tired, worried, and weak. Not to mention our supply of dragon scales was running low, which meant we had to use them sparingly.
I suddenly felt a cold rush into my body. The dragon scale in my hand had now shrunk to the size of a seed. I started to shiver, my teeth clattering together. Seeing my discomfort, Chase put an arm around me. He pulled me to his side, causing me to instantly feel warmer.
I felt my cheeks flush at our proximity.
"You should get a new dragon scale," Chase said, breaking the awkward silence.
"No, I don't want to waste one," I replied firmly, though my frozen body screamed otherwise.
"You sure?" He asked cocking his head at me.
"Ye-yes," I said teeth clattering. He chucked, pulling me even closer to him, and resting his chin on top of my head.
"You know that would sound a lot more convincing if you weren't shaking," Chase mumbled. He sounded loud this close to me and I could feel the vibrations of his voice. We sat there, the light completely gone by now.
"You should go to bed," I told Chase, interrupting the silence.
"No I'm ok," Chase said, yawning. I tried scooting away from him so he would go inside, but he held on tight to my waist.
"Chase, you need to sleep!" I exclaimed.
"Rory I'm not leaving," he said, practically pulled me into his lap. I struggled, but it was of no use. I was too weak to escape and to be honest didn't really want to. Chase was warm and being this near to him gave me fluttering sensations in my chest.
I let my head fall into his shoulder and relaxed. We both sat like this until Lena came to take her shift.I haven't updated this story in like FOREVER so sorry about that, I just didn't really have any ideas for it. If you have any suggestions that would be amazing!
