Chapter 13........no absolution
If the heavens could speak I would have begged them to take me. My love had vanished into the morning mist. Fresh unknown poison had taken him saving nothing for me. A sharpen knife carved out my heart leaving me less human than a walker. I was as misplaced as death in the fresh morning light. The heavens would offer to absolution today.
Shots rang out shattering the silence of peaceful slumber. Rick was already moving before I fully realized what the sounds even were. Grabbing his colt from the night stand Rick was already in the hallway by the time the second round of gun shots burst forth like firecrackers in the night. Gripped by fear I went into auto pilot and ran on gut instinct. Checking to make sure my gun was loaded and the safety was off I ran into the hallway and towards the doors.
Slipping through the door I tucked in behind the barrels in an attempt to figure out what exactly was going on and where everyone was. Glancing around the barrel I could see Rick and Daryl pushed flushed against the far wall looking up at Glen and Maggie in the tower. Carol and Tyres were just ahead of me crouched behind some boxes while Michone was stashed behind the jeep. The surrounding silence was deafening, sucking the air out of the night.
Through the silence a female cried out in terror. "Shane help." Her sorrowful cries covered by gunfire and the moans of walkers.
On cue we were all moving with weapons drawn through the side gate. Heading out into an unknown situation was never a good idea for all the obvious reasons. Especially at night when the dark could be misleading.
Coming around the side of the building you could see the hoard of walkers drawn by her gun shots surrounding the single female. Holstering our guns everyone began to use their knives in an attempt to reach her before it was to late.
"Shane help me!!!!" Her blood curdling scream echoed. Wildly the woman swung in vane at the on coming walkers.
Rick stopped moving as if suddenly forgetting where he was or what he was doing. When a walker started to pull him backwards he just gaped openly at the woman. Putting his knife through the side of the walkers head Daryl let the corpse fall to the ground. Giving Rick a shovel Daryl yelled in his face. "What the fuck man?? Wake up!!!"
Seemingly snapped back to reality Rick attacked the heard with a new zest. A impetuous driving need to not only save this woman but to get to her. One by one as we attacked the heard dissipated to nothing more than the odd straggled stumbling from the bush line.
"Laurie?" anguish and disbelief drown Ricks voice.
"Oh my god Rick?" Clasping her hands over her face she began to weep as she ran into his arms nearly knocking him over.. "Oh my god Rick is it really you?"
Holding her at arms length Ricks eyes searched her face as his hands inspected her body. "Are you ok?" Dragging her against him "Oh my god Laurie."
I had been so drawn in by the sight of their reunion I hadn't even heard anything move behind me. When Rick reached for his gun and instantly aimed it my general direction I stumbled and nearly fell. "Who ever is there I suggest you come out hands up." Rick commanded in a dead steel voice.
"Dad?" One of the voices hedged in disbelief. Two figures emerged still hidden from the moonlight by the tree line. There was a brief moment of hesitation before the boy broke into a run straight for Rick. Barley having enough time to holster his gun the boy dropped in Ricks arms. Holding them both in his arms the soft sounds of happy tears combined with I love you whispered forth.
"Holly shit it is you brother." A tall man with a muscular build joined the happy reunion. The four of them grasped each other in a loving embrace.
