"Ha! Eat that Zane!" Jay muffled, barely able to speak with the pizza crammed in his mouth.
"You're cheating. Therefore your victory is invalid." Zane responded nonchalantly, attempting (and failing) to convince Jay he was not frustrated.
They continued to play the video game intensely until the entire temple heard a booming cheer from Jay followed by a large snicker.
The pizza that has been in Jay's mouth was now on Zane's robotic face.
Behind the pizza was extremely livid. But that didn't stop Jay from taking a photo.
___Outside in the training hall, Cole, Kai, and Lloyd were training.
"Cole, watch it!!!" Kai yelped, as he dodged pieces of gravel flying towards him.
"What? Aren't we sparring? Isn't hitting you kind of the idea?" Cole said as he blocked a punch.
Lloyd joined in as he landed a kick on Cole's side and dodged the incoming elbow from Kai.
"Come on, less talking more fighting!" Lloyd said.
"Does that mean no more snarky comments from this guy?" Cole grinned, grasping his side, and gestured to Kai with his head.
"Hey, I heard that!" Said Jay emerging from the other room. "If anyone's snarky it's me!"
"Perhaps games aren't the only thing your good at," Zane followed him down the courtyard, awkwardly wiping the grease off his face. "But I never guessed your other talent would be self-awareness."
Nya pushed past Jay and Zane, clearly distressed, "Emergency! There's a fire in downtown Ninjago too big for the firefighters to put out!"
The ninja turned to Nya with a slightly puzzled looks.
Kai helped Cole off the ground, realizing his hand hasn't let go of his side, "Uh sis, you're the Water Ninja. Isn't putting out a fire kinda your thing?"
"Well I'm a little busy rebuilding the MEC you set on fire so I think you can take care of it," Nya said giving her brother a dirty look.
"Okay then... Kai, to avoid family drama, you're on." Lloyd said trying to avoid Nya's glare. "Zane you'll go with him."
"Why us?" Kai questioned.
"Because our elements create water, Kai," Zane said plainly.
Kai then nodded, understanding the assignment, and the two ninjas rushed out of the room.
___Kai and Zane, now communicating through their vehicles, headed toward danger.
Kai was in a red fighter jet equipped with autopilot and yellow streaks that reinforced the aircraft's heat resistance.
Zane on the other hand, was on the ground. He rode a hoverbike that left ice in its wake. The bike was designed to be compatible with his electronic body connected to the handles. Zane telepathically turned on the communication system on the bike:
"The plan is simple, I will position myself in front of the building and freeze it from the bottom up. You will hover above and melt the ice, affectingly soaking the structure."
"Understood, Let's do this!!!" Kai sped up, the smoke now in sight.
As they approached the scene, the plan immediately went awry.
The small stature of Zane's vehicle had become apparent as soon as he was hit with a piece of debris twice its size.
Zane managed to jump off of the bike, but not unscathed. He didn't have time to disconnect from the bike which caused his system to freeze.
Zane sat still, unable to move. He could see the irony of the situation which didn't make it any less embarrassing. "Kai you must do something! I am 'frozen' in place and I'm unable to assist you."
"So what now?" Kai responded through the slightly staticky comms.
"According to past Fire Elemental Masters, you can control fire, not just produce it. Manipulate the flames and move them away from the building and into the air where they will die out!"
"Yeah, I see where you're at!" Kai responded, crawling out of the seat and now standing on top of the plane which was on autopilot. "Any idea how I do it?"
Zane managed to look up and saw the red figure a few dozen levels high above the ground with his hands thrust toward the burning building. "No, I'm sorry. All I can provide is reassurance. You can do this Kai, out of all of us, you've used your powers in the most resourceful and imaginative ways. I believe in you."
Kai smiled at the encouragement, "Thanks bud, I can always count on you."
Kai closed his eyes and concentrated. His hands, which were already alarmingly close to a fire. Luckily Kai couldn't burn. His hands began to shake slightly. Kai sensed the moving fingers and furrowed his eyebrows, putting more willpower into moving the fire.
As he felt the heat that pressed at his body grow colder he opened his eyes.
The fire that plagued the building was gone, all of it being consumed by Kai's fingertips. The flames entertained themselves around Kai's hands and arms until they completely vanished under Kai's skin
"I... I don't understand." Zane mumbled,
astounded by what he saw."How was that?" said Kai as he flew down to Zane, quickly flicking a switch or two that Zane instructed the team to do if the nindroid was ever immobilized.
Zane felt his feet begin to move and within seconds fully stood up, "That was... Sufficient" Zane responded. "Good job."
