"Mommy? I'm home!"
Eddie stepped into the dark and cold house and immediately felt every bit of fun and relax he had gained melt away, playtime was over and now he had to go back to his real life, he needed to remember who he was.
"Eddie Bear?" Sonia yelled from the living room, barely able to turn in her chair and see him. "Where have you been? I was so scared!" the gargantuan woman got up and waddled over to him, pulling him into her arms and practically crushing his tiny skeleton in her hands. She smelled like lavender and vanilla, something Eddie had taken comfort in as a child but had slowly come to feeling more like a pavlov for his worst fear.
"I-I'm sorry, Greta wanted me to take her home and then we got caught up getting some food so-"
"You didn't eat any fast food did you? That'll plump you up and thats the last thing you need." Sonia started picking him apart and he was barely through the door. Great. For some reason, he was more angry than usual, shaking a bit and clenching his fist.
"Why would it matter anyways, i'm as thin as a stick." he said loud enough for her to hear. Sonia furrowed her brows and pulled away from Eddie.
"Was that attitude?" she asked in complete disbelief, she had trained her son from a young age that it was her way or no way and had always crushed him underneath her thumb. The medication being part of this, all a ploy to make him feel fragile and dependent so she could keep him rooted in the nest and stunt him enough to make sure he could never fly away.
"Maybe it was." Eddie continued, staring into her eyes at this point and crossing his arms, he couldn't explain where his burst of confidence had come from, but it felt great.
"Edward." Sonia said in a warning tone, a dark look crossing over her face. "Don't cross me." she threatened.
"What are you gonna do? Come and get me? You can barely hobble around when you're just walking, seeing you try to chase anyone would be a hoot." Eddie mocked, imagining it made a bitter chuckle come out of his throat.
An inexplicable emotion crossed Sonia's face before she grabbed Eddie with a firm grip, which Eddie yelped at, and she dragged him upstairs and into his room.
"You will not disobey me!" she cried out, throwing him onto his bed and staring down at him, all of his confidence had seeped out and he felt as helpless as a small child to a school bully. He felt small again, crushed by his mom just like always, spirit crushed once again.
"I'm gonna get you some new medication and you will take it like a good boy." she stated matter-of-factly and Eddie nodded meekly, the fight in him being gone.
Sonia left his room shortly after and locked the door, making sure he wouldn't get away from his tiny off white colored prison.
He had been at home for three days, one meal a day, three glasses of water, zero interaction with anyone, about twelve pills in the morning, seven in the afternoon, and 15 before he went to bed at night.
He knew he would be pummeled with school work from having missed these days but Sonia wouldn't break her resolve, she was headstrong and demanded Eddie's obedience, that strong will wouldn't break before he did. He was weak and he knew it.
