A Misunderstanding (SONADOW)

Chapter 2

Sonic P.O.V

It was only until I heard the bell rang, that I started moving out of my position at a slow pace. Even though I had to speak up like three times when the teacher called out my name the same amount, I felt like I was stuck in a loop of what had happened two days ago. After I lifted my head out of my arms, I noticed Shadow who only gave me another disgusted look before walking out of the classroom. I hastily wiped away any remaining tears from my face and red eyes before taking my backpack into my hands and sluggishly walked out of the classroom to my math class.

The day felt like it went in slow motion as I kept on feeling depressed throughout my morning classes. Some of my friends asked me if I was okay and Tails who was the only one who knew what happened, tried to give me as much comfort as he could in the classes we shared. The bell rang signalling a lunch break and I quickly packed all my stuff into my backpack and ran out of the classroom, ignoring some of my friends' concerned voices. I wanted to be alone for the rest of the break as I went through the crowd of students; ignoring some annoyed voices and had only rounded the corner, only to be sent crashing to the floor after running straight into someone.

I fought the urge to cry again as I rubbed my sore forehead before speaking up, "I'm so sorry! I didn't look where I was going."

He groaned slightly before also speaking up, "No problem pal. Here, let me give you a hand." He offered.

I took his hand, "Thanks. Sorry again about that..." I trailed off, the moment I opened my eyes and we both got up after taking each other's hands. The two of us kept staring at each in complete shock until we found our voices again.

"MIGHTY?!"

"SONIC?!"

Mighty P.O.V

I just joined this high school a week after Ray and I moved back to Station Square, sometime after my parents died six months. My parents were thieves who taught me everything they known. How to steal, how to break into places, how to go in undetected. Pretty much anything from thievery to stealing from the rich and giving some away to the poor. I couldn't bring myself to me friends about my family since I was pretty scared on how they would react over it. But I never got the chance to tell them, when we eventually had move away to flee from the authorities afterwards when I was younger.

Despite this lifestyle, we were a pretty loving and happy family and they were pretty much fine with the fact that I didn't want to steal from anyone or the fact that I was born with super strength. The only thing they really cared about was that they had a son who is very loving and kind. They even adopted Ray when we learned that his parents who were also friends of mine, got killed in an accident.

Unfortunately, my parents died while doing a heist and lost control of their getaway car before crashing. I tried my best not to think about my parents, ever since that day or the two of us went back to our old city; but I was fine with that, since it would give me the chance to find some of our friends here and have a new start for the both of us. The principal hasn't assigned me a homeroom yet since I only just joined this high school, but he told me I'll be assigned to one tomorrow. After that he handed me my timetable and sent me on my way. Since I had already taken the tour around the school on the weekend, I sort off knew my way around here, but I still needed to ask some of the students for directions.

The moment the bell rang, signalling a lunch break, I decided to go look for the cafeteria to try and make some friends there and possibly look for some old ones. I had only just rounded a corner until I crashed into someone, sending us both to the floor.

He apologised to me for crashing into it, but I wasn't too offended by what happened. I simply apologised and offered my hand to also help him up. It was only until I took his hand and noticed his blue quills and fur, did I go into shock. Even he looked rather shocked the moment he opened his eyes and looked straight at me.

We both kept looking at each other until he eventually spoke up.

"MIGHTY?!"

I immediately remembered how to speak again the moment he spoke my name.

"SONIC?!"

Our initial shock turned into complete happiness, as I immediately scooped him into a tight hug with nearly all my strength. "Oh, my Chaos! I can't believe it's you! I thought I'd never see you again!" I happily greeted my old friend.

Sonic responded: "S-Same t-to you, Mighty." He grunted in pain, "Could y-you please let me go? I need to breathe."

I immediately let go of him, my cheeks turning to a light shade of pink as he started taking huge deep breaths of air.

"Sorry about that, Sonic. I got a little too excited."

It was then I noticed, that his eyes were looking a little puffy and swollen, as if he was crying several minutes ago. My face became one of pure concern.

"Hey, is everything alright?" I asked softly.

He looked at me, looking slightly confused until he got the idea, his face looking rather downcast. "Y-Yeah, I'll be alright. It's just something that happened to me two days ago. I'll tell you about it later." He said, his face still not changing.

Knowing that I hit a rather sensitive subject, I decided to push the subject any further after voicing my apologises. There was a huge silence between the two of us until I thought of something else that I could ask.

"So how is Knuckles, Amy, Vector and Espio? Are you guys all still together like back when we were at Grade 1?"

Sonic immediately perked up the moment he heard the question. I felt relieved that he looked happy again.

"Yeah we're still together. My little bro, Tails now joins us at this high school, Knuckles is still the same knucklehead we all know and love, Amy... well she still tries to get me to go out with her but she currently on a trip with her parents right now and well... you'll never believe this; but Vector and Espio have been dating each other since the start of our Sophomore year."

I wasn't very surprised that Tails, an eleven-year-old kid was able to join high school since he's incredibly smart for his age. But what really surprised me, was my two old best friends' new relationship status.

"Holy Chaos! Vector and Espio are now dating? Wow. That's amazing! Those two went at each other since Grade 2 when they first met. I should go and give them my congratulations as soon as possible after this."

Sonic chuckled slightly at my enthusiasm. "Yeah I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Oh, and I almost forgot. We also have three new people in our group that joined us too. Two girls named Rouge and Blaze. And one boy named Silver who's a hedgehog like me."

Wow, the group sounds like it's been getting larger ever since me and Ray moved away from Station Square.

"That's amazing! I can't wait to see everyone then." I said out loud, making some passing students give me a look.

He then took my hand before talking again, "Well before we go meet up with everyone, why don't the two of us go someplace else to catch up instead of standing in the middle of the hall?"

I gave my own smirk at him, "Then let's go!"

Sonic broke out a laugh, before smirking too and tugging my hand leading me outside.
