*Nathan’s P.O.V*
We gazed up at the stars on the brisk evening. They shone brightly, each with their own potential. Traffic circulated on the Champs Elysees below, yet we remained peaceful. The stars above were calming, setting the tone for the evening. I rolled onto my stomach and faced Lex.
‘Have I ever told you that I love you?’ I whispered.
Her face lit up under the dim light. I placed my hand under her chin and drew her face closer to mine. As she closed her eyes, I followed suit. I pecked her lips gently, leaving her wanting more. Her hand gripped my neck, her claws piercing my skin. I kissed her jawline repeatedly, causing a little moan to escape from her mouth. She wrapped her hands around my neck, before wrapping her legs around me. I leaned in for a kiss and before I knew it….
It was all over. The trip to Paris was cancelled all because of my reckless driving. It was all my fault we crashed and now it’s all my fault she’s hurt. Sirens blared, as I stumbled across the road. Children frantically cried as people rushed around. Paramedics pulled at my shirt, pleading with me to get checked out but I refused. I just wanted to see Lex.
I burst through the crowd, frantically looking for someone who could help me.
‘Pleeease, please tell mee she’s not de…ead? She’s alive right?’ I asked the paramedic.
‘We’re not sure Sir. We’ve to wait until the fire brigade to come so we can cut the car open. We can’t get to her at the moment. We can only hope for the best, but the odds aren’t in her favour I‘m afraid. There’s a helicopter on its way so we can get her to the hospital quicker. You were very lucky to get out alive Sir’ he whispered.
I tugged at my hair, before screaming loudly. If I’ve just killed my girlfriend and child then I’ll never forgive myself. But as the paramedic said, I was lucky to get out alive, I was lucky to even get out of the car. The car was balanced on its roof and luckily for me, my door burst open and it was easy for me to escape. On leaving the car, Lex was leaning up against the door, peacefully ‘sleeping.’ I was pulled back by numerous people, in an attempt to get me to see someone, but I couldn’t leave her, not when she was in that state. I broke free of their grasps before running around her side of the car. I kneeled down, peeking in through the gap left by the crushed door.
‘Lex?’ I stuttered, tears escaping from my eyes.
‘Lex, please don’t leave me. You mean everything to me, more than you’ll ever know. I can’t express my love for you in less than a billion words. We’re meant to be together and if you’re going to be with me from here on in, then I can’t go on. I take back what I say, it’s not a promise ring, it’s an engagement ring. I want to marry you as soon as possible. I want to be assured that you’ll always be there when I come home after a bad day at work and know that you’ll cheer me up. I want to be the only one to dry your tears when you’re down and I want to be the father to the children we’ll have in the future, after our first is born in six months. I want to be assured that you’ll never leave me, because if you do, I’ll never be the same. You’re perfect for me Lex and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, whether you like it or not’ I whispered grabbing her hand inside the car.
My eye gazed upon the beaten up figure in the car. Her face was covered in blood and badly cut. I couldn’t wait any longer for the fire brigade. I shook her door furiously, feeling it break away from its hinges eventually. My arms ached from it, as much as I had been working out in the gym lately, I hadn’t gained much strength from it. I threw the door to the floor, rattling as it hit the hard pavement. The crowd around us grew bigger with the traffic being held up.
My path to Lex was now clear. She lay upside down in the seat, still strapped in. Her seat belt prevented her from smashing through the windscreen. I knew I couldn’t move her, in case she had a back injury, so instead I sat with her, clutching her hand tightly. Alfie was nowhere to be seen surprisingly. He couldn’t have gone far.
‘I’m sorry Lex, this is all my fault. Please forgive me?’ I pleaded.
I sat shaking, still clutching her hand when the helicopter arrived. I was pulled back from her body, and before long I had paramedics cleaning up my head wound, but I couldn’t take my eyes off her. It took five of them to carefully lift her body out of the car onto the stretcher. They supported her neck with a neck brace before strapping her on. She was transferred to the helicopter and before long she was gone.
‘Nath, Nath!’ Tom called as the guys ran towards me.
‘I’m going to lose her guys and it’s all my fault’ I whispered.
‘She’s not going to die Nath, she’s strong’ Tom reassured me before adding ‘at least you don’t have to drive that banger of a car anymore Nath.’
