Brooke's POV:

"Ma'am, you can't go in there." The nurse said, trying to block me in the doorway of the trauma bay where they were working on Vanessa.

"Don't tell me what I can and can't do!" I screamed, tears blurring my vision, "that's my wife in there, let me see her!"

"Ma'am, she's in good hands." The nurse had her hands on my upper arm, she was essentially keeping me upright, "she's in good hands and we will update you as soon as we can. Please, go back to your room."

"Decreased sounds on the left side, please prep for a chest tube."

Chest tube? Decreased sounds? I didn't know what any of this meant. The nurse started to push me backwards and walk me towards to my room. I didn't have any strength in me to try to stop her.

"Please." I said quietly, tears streamed down my face, "I just want to know what's happening."

"Honey, as soon as I know anything, I will tell you. Just hand out here and I will update you when I can."

I sat on the bed. Nina sat in the corner holding Emma and trying to keep her entertained.

Helpless. That's what I'm feeling.

"We need to get her to surgery, and we need to do it now!" yelled one of the doctors in Vanessa's trauma room.

"Patricia, have her wife sign the consent forms, we need to get her up to the OR now, her stats are dropping."

The nurse that helped me back into my room was rushing into my room with a clipboard in hand, just in time for them to rush Vanessa past the door. My stomach dropped even farther, if that was even possible.

I caught a glimpse of my wife. She looked small in the large bed. They had placed a tube down her throat, helping her breathe. Her sheets had blood on them. Where was the blood coming from? Had she lost a lot? Why wasn't anyone telling me anything.

"Mrs. Mateo-Hytes." The nurse said softly, bringing me out of my thoughts. I looked up at her. "We need you to sign these forms. Your wife is being taken to surgery."
"W-what's happening? I need to know what is happening. Please. Why does she need surgery?" I asked in between sobs.

"She has internal bleeding, swelling in her brain, and her right leg and pelvis is broken pretty badly." The nurse said softly, as though not to startle a wild animal, "her left lung collapsed, and they put a chest tube in to help, and the tube down her throat is helping her breathe."

This is a lot.

"Mrs. Mateo-Hytes-"

"Brooke Lynn. Please."

"Brooke Lynn, they're going to do everything they can for her okay? I just need you to sign these papers."

I nodded and signed where she needed me to. The nurse walked out of the room, leaving Nina and I alone.

"Nina, my phone please." I whispered.

She handed me my phone and I came to two contacts, my mom, and Vanessa's mom. Who do I call first?

I choose Alexis, because Vanessa was in worse shape than me.

"Hello, Brooke Lynn, you guys getting settled in after the party?"

I tried to stop the sobs, but one escaped.

"Brooke Lynn?!" Her voice became alarmed, "are you crying? What's wrong?"

"Alexis, there's been an accident."

I quickly told her what happened after making her promise she would be safe trying to get to the hospital. Her and my mom arrived together. I hugged them both tightly. I had just been discharged so the nurse, Patricia, showed us to the surgical waiting room. I hugged her and thanked her for all her help.
