I honestly had no idea where this one was going when i started writing it but here we are.
(In this shot, Richie is 17 and Eds is 16)
~3rd person POV~
Richie's HouseRichie's palms were sweating and his mouth was dry. Today was his first unofficial date with Eddie. Yesterday, he asked him to go to the diner in town for lunch. Eddie assumed that all of the losers would be there and it would be a casual occasion, but Richie thought just about the opposite.
Late that morning, Richie began to get ready for lunch with Eddie. We wanted to take his time, so he got in the shower at around 11:30, even though he didn't plan on arriving at Eddie's house until 1.
He blow dried his dark, shaggy hair then pinned it out of his eyes while he put on his clothes. He had chosen his outfit before showering so that he wouldn't have to walk around in his room, dripping wet, wrapped in a towel searching for clothes.
He pulled his dark blue sweater over his head. Richie rolled on his black and blue striped socks and yanked on his skinny jeans which, miraculously, didn't have any holes in them. His converse had begun to be a bit tight on his feet, but he ignored that and laced them up anyways because he wanted to look his best for Eds.
Richie had stolen some cologne from his father's room the previous night so he could apply it this morning. He accidentally aimed the wrong way and sprayed it into his eyes. They stung, but "beauty is pain", is what he told himself.
Richie's eyes were red and irritated so he couldn't put his contacts in. He had to opt for his old coke-bottle glasses. Since they hadn't been worn in several years, they looked very small on his head, instead of their large appearance that they had when he was 14.
~~~~~~
Richie walked 2 streets over his to arrive at Eddie's house. He stood on the front porch rehearsing what to say."Hey there's my Eddie Spaghetti! No he would hate that...Looking sharp Eds...that sounds horrible. Stupid..." He waited patiently for about 3 minutes before he walked to the back of the house, where he had clear vision of Eddies's bedroom window. He picked up pebbles and was about to toss them at the window before he saw Eddie change shirts. Richie was practically drooling.
Richie watched him leave his bedroom and he ran to the front of the house hoping that he would get there before Eddie did.
As soon as Eddie stepped out of the doorway, he said "Dude, are you high? And why are you wearing your old glasses?" Richie remembered how red his eyes probably were and panicked. He didn't need Eddie knowing how prepared he was for a simple lunch at the diner.
"Um, yeah it's just the aftermath. The affects of the weed are still wearing off." Richie was unsure of how convincing he sounded, but Eddie bought it, which is what mattered.
As they were walking through the neighborhood and into town, Richie finally noticed that Eddie wasn't as dressed up as he was. Eddie wore a grey polo with a red hoodie over it and a pair of jeans. Richie also realized that Eddie thought that the other losers were going to be there. It then clicked in Richie's head that he and Eddie weren't on an official date.
~~~~~~
The bell attached to the door rang as soon as Richie opened the door to hold it for Eddie. They were bombarded by the smell of fresh vanilla and waffles."Where is everyone else, Rich?" Eddie said. "Um, I thought it would be okay if it was just us today, Eds." Richie knew that he was going to hear Eddie complain about his nickname in a moment or two after he processed what he said. "Don't call me Eds" There it is.
They sat down on opposite sides of a booth next to a window. The waitress had walked by and taken the boys' orders. Richie ordered for both of them, attempting to be a gentleman, but he ended up getting Eddie's drink order wrong by asking for a water. Eddie chose not to correct him, though.
Their drinks came very soon after they ordered. After the water and Richie's chocolate milkshake were set on the table and the waitress left the table, Eddie spoke up.
"What if I wanted a milkshake too, Rich?" Richie did that on purpose. He wanted to make things romantic and hoped to fix this already awkward outing. "Richie, are you gonna answer me?" Richie stayed silent and placed both of the boys' straws into the milkshake hoping that they could share it. Eddie wasn't having it. He refused to share a drink with Richie because of various health reasons.
The date had already been awkward enough when Richie mistakenly thought that it was a date, but he had made it worse in so many other ways. He showed up to Eddie's house pretending like he was high, he was overdressed, purposely messed up his order and he put his dirty fingers all over the top of Eddie's straw, which disgusted him immensely.
The lunch date ended as soon as they finished their meal, both boys wanting to get out of there was soon as they could.
Richie walked the shorter boy home and apologized to him. "Eds, I'm sorry that this was so awkward today. I just wanted this to be a good date." Eddie heard what the other boy said and panicked. "I h-had no idea that this was a date, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay Eds, don't feel bad. I also misread the situation." Nothing Richie said could stop Eddie from feeling guilty, so to make up for the bad date, he stood on his tip toes and gave Richie a short and sweet kiss on the cheek before walking inside, blushing.

Over the next year, Richie finally got Eds to share a milkshake with him on a date.11-5/6-19
I feel like this one wasn't all that bad but it feels unfinished to me
