After what Antony said Tony had decided to go to the doctor. He was then referred to the hospital. The news that he got there was the worst news he had gotten since his mother had passed away.
Tony had lung cancer and without any treatment he would only have a month to live.
Despite this Tony decided to decline the treatments so that he could live his life as normally as possible. He left the hospital and went to the flower store and picked out the most colourful bunch of flowers and watched the old lady wrap them up and put a bow around them. Once he paid for the flowers he grabbed them and walked to the train station.
He stepped onto the train and then remembered a scene just like this moment from this book he read a while ago. The book was called A Dozen Bloomin' Roses. It was by an Australian author. He was lucky that nobody on this carriage knew him so he didn't have to hide his flowers.
After an hour he arrived at the comic bookstore. He stepped in and the bell rang. Antony didn't come out and so Tony walked to the villains section and found him there reading a Rouge's comic book.
"I went to the doctor." Tony said, the flowers still in his hand. Antony turned around and looked at him.
"And?"
"I have lung cancer." Antony dropped the comic book and started at him, tears welling up in his eyes.
"You lied." He croaked. "You lied," he said louder. "You told me that everything would be fine. You lied!" A tear rolled down his cheek.
"I'm so sorry, Antony. I'm sorry I didn't go sooner. But I will not let this illness, this disease, dictate my life. I'm asking Alda on a date today but I wanted to let you know. I don't want you to think of me as "that friend who has cancer", I don't want you to think of me as "that friend that's going to die" I want you to think of me as "that friend who lived the last of his life to the fullest". Please just understand that I'm not telling anyone else." Antony looked him dead in the eye and for a moment Tony swore he saw full-fledged anger in his eyes.
"What?" Antony questioned.
"I'm not telling anyone."
"Not even Alda? The woman that you are going on a date with? The woman you are planning on asking to marry you?"
"I don't want her to know because I want her to just think about a healthy me."
"I will not keep secrets from her." Antony said quietly.
"Then don't. Don't even bring it up." Antony stared at him for a moment then picked up the comic, put it back, grabbed his jacket and walked to his car and left.
Tony stood there for a while then turned off the sign and got in his car and drove to Alda's house.

He stood out front of Alda's door for a few minutes then knocked on the door. He hadn't realised that she lived in an apartment. Almost instantly she answered the door. She was in a white t-shirt and black waist high jeans. She smiled at him and he held out the flowers to her. She widened her eyes at the flowers and then took them.
"Thank you, but you didn't have to buy these for me. Come in." She waved him inside and he stepped in. The apartment was very neat and tidy and the smell of paper and tea filled his nose. "Would you like some tea?"
"Yes, thank you." She walked down a hallway to what Tony assumed was the kitchen. A little while later she called out, "Would you like milk?"
"Yes, thanks." He called back. She came back in with two cups of tea then hurried back into the kitchen and came back out with a jar full of sugar. She sat down at the table and invited him to take a seat. Tony sat down at the table and drank from the cup.
"So what did you need?" She finally asked after a few moments of silence.
"Uh.. I.. uh.. I wanted to know if you wanted to go out on a date with me." He stammered out wincing at those last few words. She started at him for a few moments then smiled.
"Yes." She said. He smiled brightly.
And life continues on.
