3:20. I looked at the time on my cell. I'm giving him ten minutes. Ten minutes to get here or I'm leaving. He was supposed to be here twenty minutes ago. Is he ditching me? He's wasting my time. Or better, he shouldn't even bother to show up. Just so I can get out of here. Why did I agree to this blind date?
"Dammit Kayla," I murmured to myself. This is her fault. For the past few weeks, she's been trying to hook me up with someone. I don't need a boyfriend. I'm perfectly happy by myself. Not to sound forever alone or anything, but I'm not looking forward to relationships right now. I wanna focus on something more important in life. But instead, I'm in this restaurant Kayla forced me to go to.
What if I didn't even like him? What am I suppose to do? Run? Or I can just pretend that I'm an actor and he's on disaster date or something. Yeah, I'll just do that.
"Ready to order?" the waitress asked. I didn't even notice her standing there.
"Not just yet. I'm actually waiting for someone," I said.
"Can I get you anything, then?" she asked.
"Just water." The waitress smiled then turn on her heels. I looked at the time again. Five more minutes. Just then, my phone rang. It was Kayla.
"So how's your date?" Kayla asked excitedly.
"What date? I've been sitting here for almost half an hour. Are you sure this is not some kind of joke?" I said sounding irritated.
"Chill. What if he got lost or something? Maybe stuck in traffic." The waitress came with my water. "And no, I'm not messing with you. Just wait a little longer, you won't regret it."
"Oh I better not. Or else I-"
"Kristine?" I heard a voice say.
I looked up. There was a guy standing in front of me. Damn! He's hot. He had short brown hair. His face had structure. I could see his jaw line. Then I noticed his eyes. They were bright green. He was wearing a fitted grey shirt. Which was good cause his muscles on his arms shows. I could tell he works out everyday. And his jeans hung low on his hips.
"Is this seat taken?" He smiled shyly. Oh his smile! It's to die for.
"Uhh n-no?" I've been struck by his godliness.
"Okay then," he laughed softly.
"Kristine? Hellooooo? You still there?" Kayla said through the phone. I forgot I was talking to her.
"Yeah I'll see you later," I hung up. "Hi," I said to the god sitting in front of me.
"Hi," he smiled. His eyes were smiling too!
"Umm...how do you know my name?" I asked suspiciously. Maybe he's my date. Oh how I wish he was.
He laughed. "You don't remember me, do you?" he asked.
I knew him? Since when? I would've remembered his face if we've met before. "I don't think we've met..." I trailed off.
"It's Zack! Remember? From 5th grade?"
Zack?! The dorky, nerdy Zack?! The Zack who was obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh cards? The short, skinny, wears big glasses Zack?! It can't be.
"Wow," I was wide-eyed. "You've changed so much."
"Well I kinda hit puberty throughout the years," he smiled. Kinda? More like puberty done right!
"Oh my god. Look at you! I remembered you were so small and wore those glasses," I'm still in shock.
"I hated wearing glasses so I got contacts instead. And I had a lot of free time while I was in Hawaii so I tried working out."
That must've been a lot of free time. I almost forgot he moved to Hawaii in 6th grade. I still remember when he had a huge crush on me. Everyone in school would always tease me that Zack the Dork was my 'boyfriend'. I would always get mad and tell him to stay away from me. Now I regretted those times...
"So why're you here by yourself?" he asked, snapping me out of my thought.
"Oh, I'm supposed to be on a blind date."
"Really? Me too!" he looked around. "I think you might be my date," he said.
"I think so too," I smiled. It was so worth waiting for half an hour.
"Who would've known right? Such a small world. I still remember when I had a huge crush on you back in elementary," he said shyly. Now I know one thing that didn't change about him, he's still the same shy kid.
"So how are you?" he asked.
"Same old. Just stressed out in school since it's our last year," I said.
"Speaking of school, I'm transferring to South High. My parents wants me to graduate and attend college in their hometown so..." he shrugged.
"How bout you? How was Hawaii? How's life been?" I asked.
"Hawaii was alright. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful. But I really just missed home," he sighed. "I learned a few things when I was there. I got into music so much that I taught myself how to play guitar. I actually have my own band."
"You're in a band?!" I exclaimed a bit louder than suppose to. Everyone in the room looked at us. Zack and I both laughed.
"Yeah. But I had to leave."
"Oh. Must've been disappointing."
"Yeah but I found other things to do. I got into skateboarding. But it's too over-rated now."
I nodded in agreement. "What else do you do then?"
"I also got into photography."
"Photography? Interesting. How'd you get in to it?" Wow. Even his hobbies are hot.
"I love taking pictures. To me, it's usually capturing the moments. You wanna be able to look back to it again and remember," he smiled. "After high school, I want to be a professional photographer." I couldn't help but smile too. His green eyes were even brighter now.
"So you wanna order now?" I asked him.
"Nah. How about let's ditch this place and go somewhere else instead," he said grinning. He held out his hand and I took it. The next thing I know we were running out of the restaurant, hand in hand.
