I lie down beside the fireplace, looking at the stars.
This will be my last night here. I thought.
This will be the last time that I will spend the night in my hut, my home.
I've waiting for the day when me and the other Gardes would fight back, and time has come.
Half of me is relieved to leave.
The other half is not because leaving this place would also mean leaving Reynolds. This place was Reynolds' final resting place.
I stare blankly at the stars above me and think that one of them may be Reynolds watching over me.
I check the other Gardes and Crayton. All of them are fast asleep except for Marina who is also staring at the stars.
"It's so beautiful, don't you think?" She whispers
I smile at her and lied by down.
"Yes." I reply. "Very."
There was a moment silence. Both of us struck by the night sky's beauty.
"You know, I always thought that people turn to stars once they die." I tell her at a low voice. "Kind of stupid, right?"
"No. I don't think it's stupid at all." She says quietly.
I smile at her words. And there was silence again.
"Do you think they've turned into stars?" She asks. "Reynolds, Adelina, The other Gardes, Our families?"
"Yes." I say with a smile.
"You see that star over there." I say to her, pointing at the smallest blinking star.
"Where?" She asks, trying to locate the star that I'm pointing at
"Over there. The small blinking one next to the three aligned stars" I say
"I'm sorry but I can't see it." She says, laughing silently. "There are a billion of them."
I teleport next to her, she squeals in surprise and we both laugh silently, trying not to wake the others.
"Over there." I say, pointing at the star.
"Oh, I see it." She says, looking at the star.
"That's Reynolds." I say, embarrased for admitting.
"Oh." she exclaims,
"Hi Reynolds," She says brightly,
"We weren't introduced properly by your friend over here" she points at me.
"I'm Number Seven but I like to be called Marina. You must be proud of this annoying little Garde beside me right now."
I smile at her.
"Well, I highly doubt that" I say
"How come?" She asks
"Well I'm the reason he's a star in the first place." I say, deadpan
She shooks her head.
"No, Eight. It wasn't your fault." She assures me. "There was nothing you could do to save him."
"I had the chance to teleport in front of him, Marina." I say, "But I didn't. I just watched them kill him"
She turns to look at me in the eyes. I stare back at hers'
"Don't be too hard on yourself, Eight." She tells me. "When... When Adelina, My Cepan, died, I was only watching her too because I didnt know how to fight. I was just there. Hiding. Watching her fight off the Mogadorians alone. Watched her die. Watched the life go out of her body." She says, her eyes filling up with tears.
"Marina.." I say, "There was nothing you could do to save her." I repeat her words.
"I know" she says, "But there is something that I can do now. And that's win this war and that's what we're all doing.. well, about to do anyway..."
She smiles at me and I smile back.
Yes. We are gonna win this war. We are." I say confidently
"Hear that Reynolds?" I say to the star, "We're gonna win this war!"
Marina starts to giggle cutely and Six starts to moan and complains, "Will you two pipe down. I'm trying to get some sleep here."
Me and Marina snicker silently and I teleport back to my place, closing my eyes and letting sleep take over my conciousness.
I am in a large arena with thousands of Mogadorians going wild in the stands. The floor is a shiny black slab of rock. Above me is a giant hole and through this hole I see group of clouds moving across the blue sky. I am inside athe peak of a mountain.
I hear someone scream, "Four!"
I looked around the arena and to my right side, I see a tall, muscular boy with long black hair and around his neck is a Loric pendant.
Another Garde.
To my left, I see another guy with blonde hair staring ahead.
I try to look at what he's looking at and I see Devdan at the middle of the arena with shackles in his wrists.
A man and a woman - Humans, stand with him, their Mogadorian cannons aimed at Devdan's chest
I saw the blonde guy run to Devdan, the rock falling away behind him with every step he takes. The roar of the crowd escalates until it is absolutely deafening.
When the blonde guy reached them, the black rock where the humans stand drops away, and they fall with it.
"Help! Help me please, help me." Devdan yells, his body twisting, trying to break free from the shackles.
The blonde guy tries to extend his arm to Devdan, his face switches from concentration to shock.
I teleport right beside him.
The blonde guy looks at me and at my Loric pendant, I stare at his', He is about to talk when I shake my head to stop him and placed a finger to my lips.
He doesn't speak and just looks from me to Devdan.
I leap unto Devdan and climbed up his legsand body until I got my hands on the chains.
Using my advanced strenght, I try to pull the chains apart. But to my surprise, it doesn't budges and I feel weak.
I hear the blonde boy cough and yell, "I Am Number Four."
I nod and continue to break Devdan's shackles.
And all at once, Devdan's body begins to shake violently.
I tried holding unto the shackles but I'm too weak. I fall down into chasm.
I tried to teleport but my Legacies has left me.
And eventually, I can feel the sharp end of a rock through my heart, killing me.
I woke up tossing in turning in the ground with Marina looking at me and the other Gardes half asleep.
