"What's got you in such a rush, Wolfblood?"
The boy stood only ten feet away from her, and unlike the first time they'd met, he had no fear. On the other hand, Clara was ready to bolt.
Instead, she decided to play dumb.
"Um, what did you call me? Wolf-what?"
He smirked slightly, and Clara nearly punched herself for blushing. He's not even that cute! She tried to convince herself. But failed miserably.
"I called you a Wolfblood. You know, shapeshifter forced to turn every full moon? Any of this ringing a bell?"
"Nope. Now if you'll excuse me-"
He blocked her path, holding his hands up. In spite of herself, Clara growled.
"Hold on, I'm not trying to hurt you. I promise."
"Hurt me?" The predatory side of Clara's wolf started to rise up in her throat. "I'd like to see you try."
Now that fear started to return to the boy. "Look, I'm just trying to talk, alright?"
She crossed her arms over her chest, flipping back her hair. "And why would I tell you anything?"
The boy swallowed and thought for a few seconds, as if deciding whether or not to tell her. And then finally spoke.
"I'm... I'm like you. Sort of."
"Excuse me?"
"A Wolfblood. I'm half Wolfblood." Clara almost stumbled over her own feet. Wow, she was not expecting that. "My father was like you, and my mother was normal."
To say the least, she was speechless. "Wh- what?"
"Do I need to say it in growls or something?" The boy replied, seeming more annoyed than scared now.
"Okay, no need to be an ass." She snapped back, taking a step closer. "I'm just surprised. I didn't know that was possible." A strange thought popped to her mind. "Wait, why don't you smell like us?"
"Half-human, remember?" Oh. Right.
"So why are you here? Why now? I haven't seen you at school."
He crossed his arms over his chest. "This is the closest pack to where I live. I came because I need help."
"Help? With what?"
"My father. He's missing."
