All that (y/n) had ever wanted was to get out of her town, and travel the world. She was quite the adventure seeker but due to her mothers current lack of employment, she didn't get many opportunities to just sit back and relax, So it came as a huge surprise to her when her mother threw together some of their shared family savings to take (y/n) on a small trip for her special day

The girl was absolutely ecstatic, She sat near the back of the plane, her eyes glued to the window. She placed both her palms on the edge of the glass in a daze she stared at the buildings below her, straying further and further away from her hometown. Her mother was quick to snap (y/n) out of her trance with a gentle tap on the shoulder

"(y/n) dear, you should start putting away your things.. The plane is going to land soon"

(y/n) was quick to oblige to her mother's request and placed her computer back in its case. The trip wasn't anything too fancy, but (y/n) really appreciated that her parents took the time to plan this for her despite being in such a rough spot financially.. Her parents were taking her stay in a smaller town in the middle of nowhere since they'd found a good deal on a cottage for the week.. (y/n) struggled with making friends in her town, her mother claimed to was only because they didn't recognize how 'amazing' she was, but she understood that wasn't the case.. the girl was painfully awkward, and had a really hard time with boys, plus her grades were atrocious, in her mind she had no redeeming qualities

She wasn't unattractive or anything so she couldn't understand why nobody would seem to give her a second glance, it's not like she greatly desired a boyfriend or anything, she just wanted validation, wanted to understood why people actively avoided her, why she wasn't good enou-

"We're here"

Her mother stated, handing the girl her luggage

"Don't blame me if you leave anything on the plane"

(y/n) simply laughed and nodded, exiting the plane in an orderly fashion, her mother following behind her

It took a couple hours for the pair to leave the airport, but that only made it all the better when they did arrive at their destination

(y/n) and her mother had a driver waiting for them and they hurriedly put away their luggage, entering the vehicle. As they drove towards the cottage, the scenery transitioned from lively cities, and luxurious hotels, to an utter wasteland. They arrived after about an hour at a small town with seemingly no more than 50 houses. On her street a few young boys tossed a beach ball back and forth, they each had a smile on their face, it creeped (y/n) out a bit.... their behavior felt almost staged, as if they were tired of being so isolated from society. Nobody else was outside on her block besides a pink haired teenage girl, who sat on the porch of one of the houses, staring out at a building not too far in the distance, where a large variety of boxes were stacked. That was by far the most peculiar thing about the town.. There was a large building covered in moss and mildew right along the outskirts. It appeared to be some form of a laboratory, though it looked abandoned since there was no human life present near the building, Regardless, security around it appeared to still be fully functioning. The building was surrounded by an electric fence, barb wire laying atop it. She was a bit weirded out that such a small town had a laboratory in it when her city barely had so much as a good restaurant, but she supposed this place may have once thrived as a much larger city, or establishment.

(y/n) wasn't sure how many of the houses in the town were actually inhabited, but regardless she didn't wish to be visiting a lively town in the first place, she didn't like large groups of people, since she felt it would be crowded, and she wouldn't get an opportunity to meet anyone. She felt she'd be the odd one out, just some tourist, and would just make everything awkward for her... but she figured she'd shake away her overbearing thoughts for the time being
