After spending a couple hours sitting by the lake, and trying to comprehend what they had just experienced, Alexis cleared her throat and turned towards (y/n)

"They're probably going to come looking for us"

She sighed, (y/n)'s calm expression faltered at her comment

"Well.. maybe the team will be able to sympathize with you.. after all, you're an important asset to their project"

(y/n) commented, though Alexis's eyes narrowed in response

"So long as my grandfather is running this project, there will be no sympathy.. he's ruthless (y/n), If he finds us.. he'll surely kill us on the spot. Our lives are at risk- we're like fugitives"

She sighed

"Though.. admittedly, it does feel nice to be outside of the lab for once, growing up in that hellhole is worse than you'd expect"

She splashed some water on her face before standing up

"Our best bet is to leave the country, they won't be able to get to us easily if we do, but they're sure to come after us soon.. For now, let's just start building a shelter, alright?"

Ethan and Clarissa stood behind the pair, only able to make out some of the words that the two were saying, Ethan nudged his head into (y/n)'s hand and started to make a purr-like sound when she scratched it, pushing his head further into her hand

"A shelter... alright, I've never really done anything like this before though-"

Alexis snickered at (y/n)'s comment

"Well yea, that doesn't surprise me, that's what I'm here for- and I'm sure I'll be able to get Ethan and Clarissa to help out as well, they may not understand English well, but they're not stupid"

(y/n) understood what she was talking about, after all, and stood up. She was sure the two harpies had more experience with living in the wild than she did.. Clarissa made her way over to Ethan and rested her head on his shoulder, Ethan let out a huff in response but just went with it for the time being

"Alex, you and me are going to collect as many sticks as we can, a variety of different sizes, some small and some largish, then Ethan and Clarissa are going to lean them up against a tree, leaving a small opening for us to get inside"

(y/n) made hand gestures as she spoke, hoping Ethan and Clarissa would get the memo

"Ethan, Clarissa, do you understand?"

She questioned, her question was met by a nod from Ethan, Clarissa just sort of mimicked his reaction and started bobbing her head

"Great then- lets go Alex"

She grabbed the girls hand and started looking around for large and small sticks alike, striking up a conversation with her and she started making a pile of decent sized sticks near the area the harpies stood, watching as they started gathering up the sticks she placed with their talons.. (y/n) felt pity for Clarissa, a cry of pain escaping her lips as she lifted up  a bundle of sticks using her injured talon

"So, Alex, how are we going to make it over the border without drawing attention to the harpies?"

She questioned, tilting her head

"Well, I have an estranged brother that has his own animal reserve in Brazil, needless to say he didn't exactly approve of our families dirty work and decided to pursue his own career, I'm sure he'd be able to take them in without much alarm.. and as for passing the border, that won't be a problem, we'll just be airborne.. that is if Clarissa is still able to carry me with her injury"

She awkwardly laughed, trying to make light of the situation

"And if not, there's a 50/50 chance I have some sort of painkiller in the briefcase, truthfully I was taking quite the gamble grabbing that"

She speculated

"I'm sure I'll figure it out though, there should be labels on the different needles, we'll have Ethan and Clarissa safe and sound in the reserve if I have anything to say about it, and hey! Maybe we could work there with him, yknow, fix my fucked up family, start over I guess.. doesn't that sound nice?"

She placed her hand on (y/n)'s shoulder, tilting her head slightly as a small smile made its way onto her face, though she was not met with an enthusiastic expression in return

"Clarissa.... I can't- my mom, I couldn't just leave her behind like that- I'm all she has"

(y/n) commented, though Alex's expression darkened at the mention of (y/n)'s mother

"Alright.. maybe you'll change your mind in the long run- but don't get your hopes up about returning home anytime soon- you're in far too much danger to return to her right now.. we're both kinda in deep shit right now.. when this is all over I'll find someone to escort you  and your mother back home, alright?"

She dropped another handful of sticks into the decreasing pile, which was quickly scooped up by Ethan

"Alright.. as long as I know you three are safe, besides.. it feels kinda cool dealing with top secret business like this"

She chuckled, making light of the situation before brushing off her skirt, they'd been talking for a little while now, and (y/n) figured they should check on the harpies progress, Alexis followed after her

"You think they're done?"

She questioned, nudging (y/n) with her elbow

"Yea, probably, or at least close to being done.. hopefully they know what they're doing"

(y/n) rubbed the back of her neck.. as they made their way over to the pair, (y/n)'s eyes widened

"Well.... that- could work.."

The harpies hadn't created a structure like the pair had expected, instead they'd created what seemed to be a giant nest atop one of the branches of the massive, tall trees surrounding them. From first glance the nest seemed to be made of sticks mud, leaves, and some feathers.. there was definitely more sticks than the ones Alexis and (y/n) had collected alone, so they'd probably done some collecting themselves

"I gotta give them some credit for that- it looks like they were the ones doing all the hard labour here"

Alexis laughed, a roar of laughter escaping her lungs

"They must be used to all this, Huh (y/n)? It does look pretty dangerous for us though.."

Alexis started climbing up the tree to try and get to the nest, (y/n) following suit- it took a lot of effort to climb up the tree since the branches were massive, and inches away from eachother,  and after making it up to about the 3rd branch of the tree, Ethan just shook his head and soared over, grabbing both (y/n) and Clarissa with each of his talons- Clarissa shot (y/n) a glare as Ethan flew her up, but the girl just ignored her, trying not to aggravate the female harpy any further, Sure- it was clear that Clarissa saw Ethan in a romantic way, and saw him as some sort of a potential mate, but did she really need to be so possessive? Were all harpies like this when it came to romance? As (y/n) was placed down, she lay back, draping her legs over the side of the nest.. this was going to be one hell of a story she'd tell her mom once they were finally taken home together.. A story she hoped she'd live to tell
