“A lie to maintain equilibrium, to hold me in this dead realm

                  This last ever dream

I’m the thought that never crossed my mind

                  Disguised in the evident

                  Forever unredeemed”

I emerged, flung from my room, where the filthy hands were hours ago, and I landed hard. I was not dirty. I was clean, dressed formally, and my brain was clean, and I was so happy. Those formulae from the chasm, they were exactly what I needed! It never once crossed my mind, but now I knew what I needed to in order to become whole again. I would publish my notebook, complete with the secrets to life, humanity, the universe, time, space, and everything in between, and I would become rich, famous, and my family would accept me once more, and I would prove I was no failure.

I scrambled to my feet and ran to the kitchen, grabbing my notebook, and writing down everything I had learned on my journey. At first I had thought it was a punishment, but now it made sense, everything made sense! I was destined to become humanity’s hero.

She will be so proud. They will be so proud of me.

I ran out the door, going outside by choice for the first time in decades.

I’m coming home, my love.
