Unlikely Allies (Ninjago Season 11)

Chapter 9: Boreal Strikes

After finding a mystical tree high above the mountains of The Great Lake Village, Cole, Jay and Nya come down from the mountain, snowboarding with some kind of makeshift snowboards.. and laughing like glee had hit them instead of wind and snow. 

Krag, the last of the Yetis and Cole's new companion was close behind them. He was once Cole's enemy and supposed guardian of the mystical Traveler's Tree, but Cole had just learned that the poor thing was the only one left of his entire race because The Ice Emperor ordered his Ice Samurai to murder his family, Krag being the only one to survive the deadly attack. Krag and Cole befriended each other and were now allies.

Cole quickly jumped over some skeleton bones and lands on the bottom with Nya and Jay, who were also on their snowboards. Krag joins them by sliding down...But crashes into Cole and Jay, and they both laugh.

Cole laughed, but was still trying to get Krag off of him because he was very heavy.

"I still can't believe you found leaves for The Traveler's Tea!" 

"Me neither. Who would've thought comes from a tree, right?" Cole asked, finally managing to get Krag off him.

Nya looked at the leaves for a minute. "I wonder how we turn it into tea."

"Maybe that old lady  in the can help! She probably knows a lot of weird stuff. Kinda reminds of Wu actually..." Jay commented.

"Sorla? Yeah, hopefully..."

Cole nodded. "All I know is I am not losing these leaves again. I'm keeping them tucked right here, safe and-" Before Cole could finish, Krag suddenly roars and then sniffs the air...Something was coming. "What's up, Krag? What do you smell?"

Eventually, they all hear a roaring sound....But it wasn't Krag. The Ninja and Krag quickly find a spot and run off to hide behind the ice. Then, a giant dragon of ice flies over them, heading towards the village.

"W-What was that?!" Jay cried out, almost automatically terrified.

"That was a dragon! And definitely not a good one!" Nya exclaimed.

Cole grunted. "Looks like it's heading for the village! We gotta get over there!!"

In the Great Lake Village, Kai is the only ninja that was protecting the village, and now being overconfident about his powers returning, he was once again relaxing on a hammock, not having a care in the realm...again. But, then more children run over, hoping to get their fish cooked.

"Kai, Kai! Light our fish!" One cried.

Kai laughed. "Okay, okay, one at a time!" Kai starts to cook their fish with his elemental fire , but they were interrupted by a loud and demonic roar.  Kai quickly gets up from his hammock and looks up...Then, he sees the dragon and gasps...

One of the children tremble in pure terror. "W-w-what was that?"

Kai looked at the children. "Get inside, all of you! Now!!"  The children run, and the ice dragon, Boreal starts freezing the village with his icy breath. Kai dodges some of the ice spikes created by Boreal and tries to summon his elemental fire and blast it at Boreal, but even though his fire was back, the flame was small and not strong enough to be formed into a beam. "You can do it, you can do it! Come on, Kai, come on! Come on, come on! Come on!" He cried, but then quickly had to dodge another blast of ice from Boreal, who roared at him in frustration when Kai dodged his attack. 

The Dragon of The Ice Emperor growls and then blasts the village with his ice once more. But, Kai dodges with a chuckle and tries to form a fireball again, but this time, the flame almost immediately fades away. "No, no!!"

"Kai! Run!!" A voice cried out.

Kai turned around and saw Sorla and other villagers running away, but Boreal quickly flew over them and roared again, blasting out ice. As the ice grew, it eventually incased Sorla and the villagers...Freezing them entirely.

"NO!!!" Kai cried out, running to them as Boreal flies away, satisfied with his mission. "No... Anyone? Is anyone there?" He called out, but there wasn't any response...Only silence. Kai walked around the entire village, desperately hoping to find someone, but everyone he saw was incased in Boreal's ice...He was the only one left. He fell to his knees, defeated...

That's when Cole, Jay, and Nya finally arrived to the village...But they immediately stopped in their tracks because of the horrific sight of everyone in the village being incased in ice. 

"Oh, no!!" Nya cried.

Jay looked around the village, terrified of what he was seeing, but then he saw Kai on his knees in the middle of the village. "Kai!!!"

The ninja automatically ran over to Kai. "Are you alright?!" Cole exclaimed.

"I couldn't do anything... to stop it. I-I tried, but..m-my powers weren't strong enough. I... I-I couldn't stop it."

Jay helped his friend, his brother to his feet. "They're not dead, Kai. They're frozen. We'll find a way to help them. I promise."

Nya looked at him, confused. "How? The ice is unbreakable!"

Cole almost immediately realized who did this, the ravager of The Never Realm. "The Ice Emperor...He did this."

Kai growled. "Then maybe it's time we took the fight to him."

"What'd you have in mind?" Nya asked.

"Lloyd wanted us to distract the Ice Emperor. To give him a chance to sneak in and find Zane. What better way to distract him than to find the Land Bounty,fix it up, and drive it through his front door?" 

Cole frowned. "You know, when I suggest things like that, everyone thinks I'm bonkers. But I like it."

Nya smirked. "Me too!!"

"Let's do it!!" Jay exclaimed.

Krag roared out in agreement, determined to help his new companions...But Kai had just noticed him for the first time and screamed.
