Chapter 6- My Other Self

A/N: Umm...I hope I did well with the awakening part! I made a few minor changes to the dialogue and actual awakening scene so it wouldn't directly copy the game. Uh... enjoy, I guess! :))

"Hmph. Really? Is that all you're going to do? Are you simply going to stand there and watch?" 

Ren's entire body went slack, and his eyes went wide as a sharp pain suddenly came into his head. He wanted to grasp his head so badly, but he was still immobilized, as he was still being held in place by Kamoshida's guards.

"Is thou truly going to forsake him? Are you going to let him die like that?"

With each word, Ren felt something inside of him start to ignite. Like a spark. He didn't know what was happening, and the spark kept growing even as the pain gradually got worse. Barely managing to open his mouth, Ren responded to the voice.

"F-forsake...? Ngh... I-I...!"

"Was that decision you made back then a mistake? Do you regret it?"

This caused Ren to momentarily stop. His actions didn't seem to benefit anyone like he intended them to. Plus, he got himself in this hell of a mess. But...

"I-I don't... I don't know!"

"Hahaha... mere words cannot convey your true feelings. Your actions will prove to me that you have the resolve to break free."

The voice wasn't wrong. Even as Ren had answered the question aloud, he knew that he was lying to himself. Just because the people around him had ruined his life, told him that his actions were wrong, labeled him, doesn't mean that he had to believe it.

As long as he knew what his justice was, no one else's opinion about him mattered.

"Ah... I see you have come to a conclusion. Let us begin, then.

"Vow to me."

The pain in Ren's head immediately became much more prominent, to the point where it overloaded most of his senses. He let out a guttural scream as his vision flashed a throbbing purple and his eyes went in and out of focus.

"I am thou, thou art I.

"Thou art willing to perform all sacrilegious acts for thine own justice!"

"Arrgghhh!!"

The pain had gotten so bad that Ren couldn't even think of anything at all, much less assess what was actually happening to him.

"Show me the strength of thy will to ascertain all on thine own,

Though thou is chained to Hell itself!"

"Gah...!"

"Call upon my name, and release thy rage!"

His head somehow hurt even more than before, and there was a deafening ringing in his ear, causing Ren to let out another guttural yell, this one more frantic and drawn out than the last. At the same time, the spark within him suddenly exploded, causing his emotions to become as overwhelming as the pain in his head. However, that didn't stop the look of determination from making its way into Ren's eyes.

 "Kill him!"

The guard pulled its arm back, ready to thrust it into Sakamoto's throat. About a couple inches away from his neck, Ren said with newfound strength, "That's enough!"

The guard and Kamoshida stopped in their tracks and turned to look at him. "...What was that?" the latter said, his yellow eyes staring into Ren's dark gray ones.
