Toshinori was decidedly uncomfortable as he watched the scene playing out in front of him. Naturally he disliked bullying as much as the next person, it was something he stopped whenever he could. This specific case however was somewhat different as he had met the victim mere minutes before. His frown grew as he realized he never even got the boys name, in his defense he was out of time, in fact had he lingered any longer his true form would of been exposed. Regardless, the boy was in need of saving and muscle form or not, he wasn't about to sit back and do nothing. That was when he truly listened to the bullies jeers and the realization of his own hypocrisy struck him. How could he save the boy from words he himself had said, after all he had told the boy the same thing 'you cannot become a hero without power'.
Toshinori tried to reason with himself, he had to be realistic, a quirkless hero would surely be too vulnerable, the boy didn't stand a chance, he was protecting the him. This thought however did nothing to stop his heart was breaking as he saw the look on the kids face. In all his time as a hero he'd never seen someone so young look so utterly defeated, like their very life had been sucked from their bones. That was a look reserved for those who had lived a life of pain and suffering, who had nothing left to give, the type who he would have to save from rooftops.
Had his words contributed to the boys current state? He lowed his head in shame, of course they had."Wait, please don't do it," shouted the boy, causing Toshinoris head to snap upwards to see the young boy charging forwards towards his group of bullies. This action elicited a look of pure shock from the blond ringleader who instinctively raised his hand letting of a huge explosion. The green haired boy flew back to the ground and it was the blond haired boys turn to look scared, "DEKU WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING YOU USELESS," but he didn't have time to finish his sentence before he has shoved aside by the green haired boy who ran straight past him towards the bridge shouting again, "please don't do it". That was when Toshinori saw him. The man on the wrong side of the bridges railing. The man who was about to jump. The man the boy was now embracing from behind.
"Please don't," said the green haired boy again his face buried in the mans back.
Izuku didn't know why he'd rushed in, other than the fact his legs had moved on their own the second he saw the man on the bridge. He known he would be injured, possibly servilely, by non other than his childhood friend and yet he'd thrown caution to the wind risking everything for a complete stranger. Maybe even after everything he went through some small part of him still longed to be a hero.
Deku snapped out of his thoughts as the felt the man he was hugging being to shake before breaking into tears. Relief flooded his body as he heard the man say one simple word, "okay." Deku lifted his face ready to see the man he'd saved. But all he could see was darkness. He blinked a couple of times ignoring the pain from Bakugou Katsukis blast. Still nothing.
"Kid your face" came the the shocked voice of the man.
"Don't worry about it," deku replied putting all his effort into keeping a smile on his throbbing face "I've had worse"
"You need an ambulance now," the mans voice was becoming more and more panicked as he climbed back to the safe side of the railing and fumbled with something. Izuku didn't know what at first but he guessed when the man started talking again.
"I need an ambulance to midnight bridge ASAP this is an emergency.... a boys injured.... his face is burnt.... I think it was a group of boys..... can you see?" He finished turning to deku.
"No not at the moment" replied deku still trying to ignore the tears that left scorching trails down his face as he smiled.
"He can't see" the man continued to talk to his phone. " right the boys.... one has blonde spikey hair another one brown and another one black, all have short hair, wearing a black uniform, the same on as the inju.." but this was the last thing deku heard he felt his legs give way beneath him.
A couple of hours later Toshinori had a very difficult decision to make, with the suicidal mans testimony alone, the blond boy would never be able to become a hero, he would get a criminal record and wouldn't even be able to get a provisional license. As missguided as the boy clearly was Toshinori couldn't help feel he had potential, he'd even heard the boy say he wanted to be a hero. But more than anything was the guilt waying on his conscience, could he really destroy the dreams of two young boys in one day. He didn't think he could so he told the police, "it was a freak accident due to inexperience, just boys being boys." The fact he saw only relief on the police faces, convinced him of his decision, all of them were glad they didn't have to convict a child.
When the police had finally left all might went up to the blond boy who still seemed to be in shock. "Hello young boy, what's your name?"
"Bakugou, bakugo Katsuki." The boy muttered.
"Well young bakugo, I have a proposition for you, that is if you still want to be a hero. I can help you reach your true potential. It won't be easy or quick you'll need to be able to change yourself and grow from the mistakes you've made but I truly believe you can become something something great. What do you say?"
Katsuki looked up at the man eyes full of unshed tears, regret etched into his face. "I want to be a hero."
