Pandemonium erupted. Yancey's kings were even more confused about the current predicament than she, erupting into questions of where am I's, and who are you's. Only the Bard King and The Necromancer King seemed unphased. Bard simply laughed, and watched the rest as if it was his usual soap opera, and Necromancer, well... Yancey figured he was eyeing up who to kill first.
Tank King, the young army man, was the worst. "Fuck! Did I die?! What is this?!" He was screaming, and grabbed the elderly Drift King, shaking him back and forth, and even began hurling insults. "You Axis scum, what did you do to me?!"
Drift pulled free and tried to run, but Strategy King, the roman woman with the gorgeous head of rolling red hair, stepped in-between, raising a voice that cut through the chaos with uncanny ease. "Silence! Listen to me!" Amazingly enough, everybody complied.
The befuddled group likely assumed she had answers, but her next statement cleared that thought, yet still amazingly maintained a sense of calmness amongst the crew. "Can none of you venture a guess as to the reasoning behind our current predicament?" She asked, turning her head around amongst the group.
Yancey considered keeping her silence, but raised her hand. Aurelia, the King of Strategy, motioned for her to speak. "Um, so, I don't really know how to explain this, but I was selecting all of you for a video game, and--"
"What is a 'video game'?" Strategy cut in, and a few in the room nodded with approval at the question.
Right, she's from ancient Rome. Actually, most of them are from time-periods that didn't have video games. Yancey thought to herself, thinking of how to rephrase her words.
"I was playing a game, kinda like a board game, and I started selecting pieces. The pieces looked like all of you. I don't know anything other than that, but it obviously had something to do with our current situation."
Aurelia pondered this, her brilliant mind reviewing the new information, as a few other Kings chattered amongst themselves.
Hell, Bard didn't just chat, he pulled out what looked to be a miniature guitar and started strumming and singing. The worst part, it was actually really damn good.
Conner, the Tank king, saw another chance to make his presence known, and hurried over to Bard to yank the guitar away. "What, are you stupid?! This is no time for games!" He screamed, but Bard only laughed, a full hearty laugh that warmed Yancey's heart and seemed to cool Tank's rage.
And then Bard, Adoltin, spoke. "But of course it is! Once you understand the futility of life, you too will revel in stupidity." If the sun had a voice, Yancey imagined it would glow with the same radiance of Adoltin's.
Yancey was so soothed by the voice, she hadn't even noticed Necromancer's scythe until it looped around her neck. His voice, cold and emotionless, conveyed one singular thought to her: He'll kill me.
"Answer my questions. Do not speak anything except a truthful answer or you will die." Necromancer started, speaking between long, ragged breaths, as if not killing her instantly was physically painful for him. "Do you know anything else that you haven't mentioned yet?"
Yancey started to shake her head, halting just in time to realize that with how firm the scythe pressed against her neck that this action would kill her. "No."
Dr. Faust hummed for a moment before continuing. "Do you know how I can get back to where I came from?"
Yancey started to tremble. "No." Her legs were quivering, and she was afraid they'd give out, and the race would be on to see if her head landed first or her body.
