.Ashley left the house after she threw Timi's drugs away. She was starting to feel a tad bit guilty. So she ran over to Ayo's house, jumping the little fence and layed on the cool grass. She haven't spoken to Ayo since the last time she came and she felt guilty.
She played Billie Eilish _when the party's over and placed her hands underneath her head and stared at the scorching hot sun. She didn't mind that she sun was blazing hot but then the cool slimy grass was much better.
"Who's there?". She heard a female voice ask and she froze. She did not expect someone to be home. Ashley quickly stood up and met a short plump woman staring at her. She was certain it was Ayo's mother.
"Um. Good afternoon ma. I was looking for Ayo". Ashley rubbed her palms on her skirt. The woman accessed her from her head down to her toe before replying
"If you're looking for him you should have knocked". Ashley knew she was done for so she nodded and started to walk away.
"Ashley. Come". The woman called her back. Ashley was shocked she knew her name.
"Oh come joor. Who doesn't know Ayo's princess". A twitching smile played on the woman's lips as she made that statement.
🦋
"So you're still in school?". Mrs Adeshina questioned as Ashley squeezed the mop. Ashley has been here for over two hours and they bonded, just like that. The woman chatted happily like Ashley was the daughter she never had. Ashley had helped her do some house chores and she was very tired but she couldn't say that cause she wanted to make a good impression of herself.
"Yes ma. Tenth grade going to the eleventh". Ashley wiped a sweat of her forehead. She mopped the last portion and threw the dirty water away replacing it with a clean one.
"What school is that?".
"Malcom highschool". The mere mention of the name made Ashley's stomach churn in disgust. She hoped the woman dosen't notice.
The woman didn't reply neither did she say anything again till she dished Ashley's food. Porridge yam with little slices of greens and fish floating inside.
Ashley was about to eat when her phone rang. She pulled it out and the caller ID made her appetite disappear. It was Timi. Mrs Adeshina looked at her as if asking her to pick the phone and Ashley excused herself to the kitchen.
"Hello?". She greeted.
"Ashley. The Fuck are you?. Where is my damn parcel?". He sounded like he was throwing something.
"Stop cursing at me. I don't know where your parcel is".
"Don't tell me that. Don't tell me that bullshit. You have my parcel and I want it back now!".
"Bye Timi". She hung up and tried to calm herself down. She was starting to feel guilty for what she did. All this wouldn't have happened if Timi didn't take her money. She placed her phone on flight mode and slid it to the side of her skirt pocket.
She breathed out and headed out of the kitchen and found Mrs Adeshina watching a Nigerian movie. The woman had finished her meal and Ashley thought it was best to carry her plate to the kitchen.
"Thank you my dear". Ashley beamed and dropped the plate in the sink and left to finish hers when Ayo came back.
"Ashley. What a surprise, you bailed out on me the other day". Ayo pulled her into a hug and his mom cleared her throat. She couldn't understand children of these days showing affections in front of elders. Ashley blushed red.
"Maami ekà sàn ma". Ayo squatted a bit as he greeted his mother. The woman smiled in return.
"How was work. Go and shower let me bring your food". Ayo nodded and left for his room while Ashley went to finish her food.
🦋
Ayo escorted her to get a trycicle that will take her home. But her home didn't feel like home anymore.
"Thank you for today". She smiled when she finished bargaining with the driver."No thank you. I haven't seen my mom that happy in a while". Ashely smiled and slipped to the back of the vehicle. She waved at Ayo till he was out of sight.
......
The moment she stepped into the house she knew something was wrong. The whole furnitures were turned upside down, everything was a mess. She was still rooted to the spot when her mother came home.
"Whats all these rubbish?". Her mum thundered but Ashley had no explanation to it.
"I'm just coming back and this was how I met the house".
"Well arrange it then. What if i came in with a visitor?". Jennifer walked in dragging the heavy nylon in her hand. She bought a whole lot of drugs to help her shed some weight in less than a month and creams that will make her look younger. She didn't have time for the scene in front of her, she had a marriage to save.
Ashley got to work. She was really tired from the chores she did at Ayo's house but she had no say. When she finished with the sitting room and was satisfied, she ran up to her room. If the sitting room was a mess then her room was a bigger mess. All her clothes, bags, underwears, everything including her mattress were all on the floor. She knew it was Timi and she hated him the more at this point.
"Timi!!". She barged into his room but he wasn't there. She checked the bathroom but he was no where to be found. Ashley was really tired but she couldn't rest because if she wants to sleep in her room tonight she has to start arranging everything immediately. She sighed in defeat and began to arrange.
