Ivan hoped that Canada explain to Alfred what happened on the phone, but he still planed on begging for forgiveness. It was nighttime, and as he rode the bus to Alfred's hometown, he gazed out the window in amazement at the fireworks lighting up the sky. The sudden explosions were surprisingly calming to listen to. Kitty attempted to sleep on Ivan's lap, but couldn't find a good position. He smiled, and thought it would be best to hold Kitty in place for the rest of the ride.

"I hope he'll love me again."

He normally felt an indescribable amount of joy whenever the firework shows would start, this year however, was much different. Even though he spent his birthday alone almost every year, it never bothered him. Another difference that Alfred didn't take pleasure in. His eyes continued to reflect no light, no happiness or hope. His insides felt empty, and his heart seemed to barely beat anymore. He sat under a tree and gazed out at the water of the lake, watching how it would change its color as fireworks went off. he sighed and leaned his head back, noticing that July never felt so cold. While basically sulking, he merely blinked when he heard his name called from behind him. Weakly lifting himself up, Alfred turned around to see just for the hell of it.

"Oh my god..." his legs moved involuntarily, but he soon found himself with Ivan's arms wrapped around him in a protective and loving manor. He didn't speak, just sobbed as he tried to grasp what was happening.

"Y-You're really here..." he mumbled out almost incoherently, to which Ivan nodded and patted his back. They stood there for what seemed like so long, crying and relishing in the moment. Each time Alfred attempt to speak, his words would cut off into tears of joy and confusion.

"I missed you so much..." Ivan held him tighter, almost as if he would be torn away from him again. Although this time he would make sure it never happens. After his fit of tears ended, Alfred began to talk as if he wasn't just sobbing two seconds ago.

"How are you here?! What happened between you and your sister? Did you tell them? If you did, do they hate you?! I-I just don't understand how you're-uh... How you're even here."

"I left her, and I told both of them. I don't know if they hate me but..."

"I see someone who is a disappointment to the only family they have. I see someone who is clearly not worthy of our time."

"They uh... They certainly didn't approve of us being together." normally, Alfred would respond with saying he's not worth Ivan's sacrifice. This time, he felt the urge to be more different than he already is.

"Well, fuck them then! Why the hell should they be interfering with your personal life anyway?" he trailed off and lowered his head, pressing it against Ivan's chest.

"They should love you no matter what..."

"You know? You're right." though taken aback at Alfred's sudden change, he couldn't deny the truth he offered.

"But listen to me, it's been a while. But after those few months of being with you, I realized something I should have sooner." he took Alfred's face in his hands, gazing into his electric blue eyes with his of amethyst violet.

"If this love is real, I will wear it on my sleeve and burn in hell." his statement was followed by him kissing Alfred passionately, yet with gentle love.

"You're unbelievable..." Ivan took a deep breath and tried to shake away the obvious blush on his cheeks. He turned away and fanned himself rapidly, clearly flustered as Alfred watched in confusion.

"Um... You good?" Alfred finally noticed that Ivan had his cat with him, it sat on the ground as if it was trained. he stood close to it for fear it would run off, it's still a former stray cat after all.

"Aww... How did I not notice you before?"

"Y-Yeah! I'm just a little nervous that's all..."

"About what?" Alfred grew increasingly anxious to know what was going through his lover's head. Eventually, Ivan sighed heavily, and turned around with seemingly stable confidence.

"Okay." he took Alfred's hand and bent down on one of his knees, his heart beating out of his chest. Alfred muttered something and covered his mouth with his free hand, all ready getting teary eyed.

"I love you with every part of my body. You are the only one who ever showed me any sort of kindness. Before we came together, you put up with me regardless of how unreasonable I was. I know I have problems, but you never once showed true fear of me. The real me..." he stopped, wishing he could take back his actions from the cold war.

"Ye-Yeah..?" Alfred sniffed, letting go of every ounce of stress that was left in him.

"You're my everything. Will you marry me..?" he smiled nervously, terrified he'd hear no.

"Yes... Yes, you idiot!!" Alfred collapsed and fell back in Ivan's arms, feeling his tears fall on his neck. He then hit Ivan on the arm, stirring up more confusion.

"What...? What was that for?"

"You thought I'd say no. Didn't you?" Alfred smiled childishly and giggled, catching the lights of the final fireworks in his peripheral vision.

"Never assume that..." he had his turn to kiss him, the bad memories vanishing from his mind.

"I love you."

"I love you too."
