                                 Chapter Forty-Two; Face It

Jenna kept reading for hours, until finally she fell asleep, a huge amount of books around her.

I sighed as I tried to rearrange them.

“You are back.” My shoulders stiffened as I heard my dad’s voice behind me.  I put the book I was holding down, and looked over my shoulder.

“I thought I would give Finn a visit.” I heard his footsteps getting closer, making me feel uncomfortable.

“That dog is really attached to you. When you weren’t here he would keep barking at us.” He chuckled humorlessly.

I didn’t say anything back. I heard his sigh as I saw him sit beside me from the corner of my eyes.

“Thank you.” He said. “I-I didn’t know how to stop her from crying all night-“

“-So you stayed beside Sandy and left her here alone.” I cut him off while giving him a blank look. He frowned. His eyes looked very tired. No not only his eyes, but all of him. He seemed like he had grown at least five years.

He didn’t say anything for a while, and the only sound we could hear was the soft ‘thump’ that was caused from the books while I tried returning them to their places.

He looked down. “I didn’t mean to leave you back then.” I clenched my hands tightly.

“Then what did you mean?” Surpsingly, I was calm.

He ran his hand through his hair. “Can we talk outside the room, I don’t want to wake her up.” When he mentioned Jenna, I remembered that we were still in the room. I got up and went to the living room.

I didn’t want to talk to him right now.

I knew that we would have another fight.

“Who told you about Sandy?” He asked as he sat on the couch.

“Colin.” He chuckled.

“That boy, he always loves to stick his nose into others problems.” He gave me a small smile.

‘Other’s problems’.

I wonder if I was one of his problems.

I wanted this to just stop. But I knew that if I didn’t talk to him now, I would probarly never do.

“It’s your fault.” After sitting in silence for about a minute, I spoke. He was surprised for a second at my words but then looked away guiltly, without saying anything. “If you didn’t cheat on my mom, and if you didn’t leave her side, she would have been alive.” I spited my words at him. He flinched as if I had thrown knifes at his heart.

“I know.” His voice was weak.

I hated talking like this with my dad.

He was my dad for goodness sake!
