Aubrielle Marino
"60 more days until I finally become Mrs. Aubrielle Harris"
Paige, my best friend, smiled through the FaceTime camera "I know. I'm so excited like this my ass getting married"
I laughed a little, pushing around the food on my plate. "I'm just glad I can finally be happy now cause lord knows, these past few years been rough"
"Well I hope I don't sound like a bitch for saying this but you said your momma told you not to mess with him in the first place"
"Who"
Paige looked at me some type of way "Bitch you know i'm talkin' bout this Kentrell boy"
"Now why you wanna bring him up?"
"Cause! That's the reason why you wasn't happy and you know it"
I stabbed my fork into my spaghetti and rolled my eyes
Kentrell... my childhood best friend that eventually became my crush. Around 8th grade was when I started liking him but I always kept it to myself, not only because I was nervous to tell him but also because he started making a not so good name for himself around town. By 9th grade he'd dropped out and even though my momma wasn't too fond of me being friends with him still, we remained close. By the end of my freshman year we eventually started talking and then we were in a relationship by the time I started my sophomore year.
When everybody found out I was dating him, people were not pleased. They felt like I was too good for him and they also assumed that his reckless ways would cause something to happen to me if I didn't leave him alone but I still stayed with him. Through all the fights, breakdowns, late night jail calls and so much more, I stuck around. However our relationship came to an end right before I started my first year of college. I was going to a local university, yet I was gonna be on campus so Kentrell was supposed to help me pack my things up so I could move in however he never showed up to my house or called my phone. Of course I was upset but the next day Ben, one of his closest friends, called me and vaguely told me what happened. All I knew was he had gotten himself caught up in something and was arrested. Apparently that something was big enough to get him sentenced to 4 years in jail and NOBODY still has told me what happened. When I finally got the chance to talk to him, instead of getting the answers I wanted, I was broken up with... over a paid phone call. He apologized for bringing me down with him and how he wants me to move on a do something with my life instead of waiting on him.
I was heartbroken, upset and angry, so angry that I haven't spoken to him again. He used to write me letters but eventually stopped when he realized I wasn't gonna respond back, I was just hurt. Instead I did my first semester of college then transferred to a school all the way in Shreveport. I stayed single and kept my head in my books for the first few years until Paige, who I met when I first transferred, set me up with Antonio, my now fiancé. After slowly letting him in, we eventually dated for a year and right after graduation, he popped the question in front of both of our family and friends. Every since, I've been happy and I'm ready to see what the future has for us
"I really don't like you, you know that?"
"I'm just saying... but anyways, when did you get back to Baton Rouge?"
"Yesterday morning. I'm at my momma's house right now. I might end up going to see a couple of people before Tonio comes in two days"
"Well alright then, I'm not gonna hold you up from spending time witcha family and friends. I'll talk to you later"
"Alright. Just text me"
"Okay" she responded before I hung up
"Aubrielle.." I could hear my momma's soft voice call out as multiple set of feet walked along the floors of the two story house I grew up in.
