Aubrielle Marino

2:00pm

"You should've seen how her face lit up when he proposed. She had this sparkle in her eye I've never seen before" my mom boasted as she spoke to one of her friends about when Antonio proposed to me.

While she kept bragging like I was some trophy, Paige tagged along with her so my mom could introduce her to everybody and I just sat back leaned against the counter eating chicken salad sandwiches

"That lady truly is crazy" I muttered to myself while stuffing another one in my mouth. My eyes wandered around our large kitchen as I looked at everybody.

In my eyes, everybody in this kitchen was fake. All of these women watched Kentrell and I grow up, they saw Kentrell run around in diapers up until he was sent away to jail and they hated him, even knowing all he's been through. They spoke bad on him and said I didn't belong with him but they're all for Antonio and they don't even know him from a can of paint. My mom either. All they know is what she told them and she don't even know too much except that he graduated from college and has a great job.

Not to mention, everybody in the neighborhood kisses my mom's ass and it was annoying. She could tell them to jump and they would say how high? Especially after she got the job as CEO of the marketing company she works for.

"Aubri" my mom called out while I was in the middle of chewing. I looked at her and Paige laughed a little

"Huh?"

"Finish chewing and come here. Show them the ring"

"I might as well take it off and let you walk around with it" I responded while walking over to her. The minute I reached her she grabbed my hand and held it up for the group to see

"Now tell me that isn't beautiful"

"Ouuu Aubrielle! Girl! You better keep him. He has taste"

"I know that ring was expensive"

"Maybe I should've went to school in Shreveport too"

"So.." Mrs Ann had to be the main one to speak up "when is this fiancé coming out here?"

"In two weeks. Then the wedding will be three weeks after that. How amazing is that" my mom beamed and I grinned a little

"Yeah..."

"And I'm guessing you're the maid of honor" Alyssa, one of my mom's coworkers asked Paige. She smiled and nodded but my mom spoke before she could

"Yes she is. This is Aubri's best friend"

"Well I know Jessie didn't like that"

"But I chose-" I started but I was cut off

"Jessie has to get her priorities straight before she can handle that kind of responsibility" my mom said and I looked at her

"I think me being by Aubri's side throughout this experience is what's best" Paige defended herself while grabbing my arm

"What were not gonna do is come for my cousin ma" I told my mom and she rolled her eyes

"But I mean Aubri. She does have a point. Jessie isn't mature enough for that kind of responsibility and plus she's busy day and night partying or running the streets with them boys"

Nearly the entire room agreed when Mrs Ann said that and I laughed a little

"Wow... well maybe because those boys are the only people who actually love the real her and don't want her to change to fit somebody else's perfect image"

"And that's exactly why she's still where she is. Look at you and look at her"

I looked at my mom some type of way

"She's HAPPY! But y'all can't see that"

"She's throwing her life away. And if you keep entertaining Kentrell then you will too"

"Are you serious" I cocked my head to the side, crossing my arms while they all looked at me

"Aubrielle.. please tell me you're not" Mrs Ann said with disappointment in her voice "you gave a great man and you're getting married soon!"

"That's what I try to remind her but she would rather follow him up"

"Kentrell won't do nothing but mess your life up. What can he do other than get you pregnant and disappear?"

"Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't in jail by next year"

"None of y'all know Kentrell" I defended him

"I know Kentrell! We all do. I remember when his momma was pregnant with him and now look at him"

"Y'all know OF him! But instead of knowing why he is the way he is now, y'all would rather judge him"

"Aubri why do you keep defending him? Did you not remember how he hurt you?" Paige asked and I threw my hand up

"Paige please stay outta this right now."

"Paige has every right to be apart of this conversation! She cares more about you than Kentrell ever did. You see how he didn't even bother to keep in touch with you the minute he went to jail" my mom started getting loud

When she said that, that's when I finally cracked. How dare she

"He did try to keep in touch with me but YOU thought I wasn't gonna find out. I saw the letter from him you hid. FOUR YEARS worth of letters momma"

When I finally confronted her she seemed stunned. Paige looked at my mom and opened her mouth to say something but then stopped

"You lied to me! You hid stuff from me! And there's no telling what else you've done to keep me and Kentrell away from each other"

"This is exactly why I didn't want you coming back to Baton Rouge! Because if this! You're screwing up your own wedding because of that boy!"

"Well guess what, you better hope there will be a wedding because right now I'm DONE with this whole situation!" I fussed back and stormed out of the kitchen, grabbed my keys and left the house.

I hopped into my car and left with the quickness not even thinking about looking back and I left my phone as well. Not before long I ended at my destination with tears in my eyes. I was completely over this situation and I don't know if I could take it anymore.

I knocked on the door and waited until it swung open. Kentrell looked at me and furrowed his brows

"You Ight?"

All I could do was hug him in tears, holding him tight

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry Kentrell"

"Sorry bout what?"

I pulled away from him to look him in the face "I love you. And I want you"

Hearing me say that made him smile from ear to ear. He licked his bottom lip and hugged my waist tight "you already know I ain ever stop loving you Aubrielle"

I grabbed Kentrell's face and started kissing him causing him to eventually pick me up. He carried me into the house, closing the door behind us and carried me straight to the bedroom, giving me the best I missed you over the past 4 years dick of my life
