You always have that teen romance movie or series with the cute couple everyone loves. For example, Teen Wolf. As many times as Scott and Allison had their little fall-outs, they always seemed to get back together because of how madly in love Scott is with Allison and how much Allison just can't get enough of her little wolfy boy. Gross!
Next, you have Everything, Everything. The story of a girl who seriously can't even breathe in oxygen without having an allergic reaction. She turns 18 and finally takes it upon herself to go outside and explore the world even though her mother strictly forbids her not to. Along the way, she meets a guy who's willing to help her with this adventure and then ends up falling in love. Ugh!
And finally, there's Midnight Sun. Long story short, there's this chick named, Katie. She's allergic to the sun and is only allowed to go out in the nighttime. Some dude in her neighborhood finds out she exists and realizes she's never out in the daytime. He starts to get to know her more, they end up falling in love and having their midnight love affairs. Of course.
Seriously! We get it. I'm just trying to move on with my life just like everyone else on the face of the Earth.
Number One is already crossed off on my list. Make a best friend.
That number has been crossed out since I was nine. This is where my best friend, Amber Lewis, comes into the picture. I seriously don't know what I would do if it wasn't for that curly-headed dork. She's helped me through so much. Thank god, she came into my life when she did. Everyone has some trouble with life in their teenage years, but now imagine battling life and having this annoying ass disease dumped on your shoulders.
I met Amber in my hospital bed. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. Amber's mom was on the third floor, giving birth to her baby sister, Bianca. Nine-year-old Amber thought it was cool of her to take it upon herself and explore the hospital instead of sitting her little ass in the waiting room.
That was the day I came home from school early because I collapsed in Math class from my fucked up kidneys. It most certainly wasn't the first time I was sent home because of my conditions either. So, I was just relaxing in my hospital bed with my breathing tubes in my nose and out of the blue, here comes Amber.
Not too many kids wanted to be my friend at school because I was the "weird sick girl". So, when Amber came into my room, I got excited and waved. With her big smile, she waved back and walked up to me. She seemed confused by all the machines I was hooked up to. She let her finger linger over all the wires and machines and once her fingertips stop at the wire inside my nose, she pulled it right out!
That cut off my main source of oxygen and all of these sounds went off and the nurses rushed into my room. I never blamed Amber ever since. I mean, she was really curious. Always has been and still is. So other than the fact that the girl almost killed me, I couldn't have wished for a better friendship.
