Breathless

Chapter Four

Once I reach to my apartment I fumble with my key, trying to find which one of the six is the one for the front door. Once I find it I open the door and put my bags down.

A light turns on and all of the sudden.
"SURPRISE!!"

Will, Danielle, and my new favorite person, Lauren are all cheering. Danielle holds up a four-pack of wine coolers.

Funny how a couple years ago instead of holding up a bottle people would be holding up a cake. Time flies fast and life is too short.

Danielle comes rushing towards me crashing me with a hug, "Happy Birthday, Kat!!!"

I hug her back tightly. "Thanks! Dani! This is so thoughtful!"

"Come on we have so much planned for tonight!"

Dani takes my hand and ushers me into my room. On my bed is a short black dress, black tights are put next to it, on the ground by them are some short black stiletto combat boots. I turn around to my friends.

"Um... What is this?" I say pointing to all the slutty clothes on my bed.

"It's your birthday gift from me! for tonight! Oh and," She goes through her purse and pull out a pair of cat ears? Oh no. "Here." I took the cat ears and she winked at me as she closed my bedroom door.

It would be nice to just, get out of my comfort zone for one night. It's Halloween and it should be okay to wear something like this. Right?

I changed into the black dress and tights. Zipped up the boots and put the cat ears.

Someone knocks on my door, I don't say anything but Dani comes in anyway.

"Whoa, you look hot! I knew the dress would look good on you. Now let me do you makeup."

I don't protest and let her do what she wants. Using eyeliner she draws a black dot on my nose and some cat whiskers, then for my makeup she just makes and exaggerated cat eye look. She finishes off with curling my blond hair.

"Done!! I'd be surprised if no one took you homes tonight."

"Dani I hope you know that I will not be going "home" with anyone tonight. You know that's not my thing." I say a bit annoyed, using air quotes on the word home.

"Mhm, sure. You have not seen the men of Chicago."

"I'm sure they're just like the men of every other place."

"Whatever you say. I'm going to get ready. Can I use your bathroom?" I nod and she enters the bathroom with a bag.

Ten minutes later she's out. She poses exaggeratedly. "Sooooo, how do I look?" I can't help it, I burst out laughing. She would be a pink playboy bunny!!

"Hot, Dani. Would Alex feel good about you going out in public like that though?

She shrugs, "Alex is not here, therefore he doesn't have to know. I mean, I'm sure he won't mind seeing me like this." She laughs throwing her head back. "I'm sure he would take me where ever we were if I was wearing this near him." She winks and soon I get what she was talking about.

"Okay! TMI!" She laughs at my discomfort and takes my hand. "Come one lets go see if Will and Bambs are done getting dressed.

"Bambs?" I asked confused why she have Lauren that odd nickname.

"Yeah, short for Bambi. She's little me so I call her Bambi." She says as if it actually makes sense.

"Well okay then."
