I watch aimlessly as Michael exited the empty cafeteria. I feel my eyes dull as I took a swig of alcohol to keep the squip away. The liquid burned through my throat like acid, forcing out an involuntary cough from my lungs.

Something felt...off about Michael.

The way he carried himself, and argued with me was nothing like the way he did back on halloween. It felt like I was talking to a completely new version of Michael. I let a out dry chuckle loose from my mouth.

"sounds familiar..." I hummed to myself.

I downed another swig of alcohol.

The dazed boy was absentmindedly doodling on his paper as the final bell rang. He flinched, off guard, then shook his head to snap himself out of it. The poor boy gathered all his papers and shoved them messily in his backpack.

Jeremy usually has Michael in his last period, and expected to see him here, but there was still no sign of his ex friend.

"I guess he really did go home..." he thought, as he slung his backpack over his shoulder.

He had play rehearsal right after school, but he was in no condition to go right now. However, his feet seemed to betray him as they carried him out of his classroom.

Jeremy briskly walked over to the auditorium, where rehearsal was taking place. He saw Christine eagerly bouncing around the stage, and sighed. He usually felt all fluttery and happy whenever he saw her, but he didn't feel anything as of a few days ago. It was odd.

"Fuck..." Jeremy groaned as Christine took sight of him, and skipped towards him. Christine was practically radiating bubbly girl energy.

"JEREEEEEMY! YOUR HERE!" Christine yipped. Jeremy winced. "ARENTYOUSOOOEXITCEDFORRE-

"Uh-about that..." Jeremy eased in. Christine blinked. "uhm...i'm not feeling so....so good uh," Jeremy shut his eyes tight and rubbed the back of his head. "Can, can you tell Mr Reyes i'm not feeling well? I-I'm probably gonna go home and get some rest..."

Christine stood silent, before her cheery smile kicked back in. "Gotcha dude! Don't even sweat it!' Christine saluted and skipped off in the opposite direction, most likely to find Mr Reyes. Jeremy let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.  "Well...time to find Micha...."

Jeremy walked out of the auditorium.

--------------------

Jeremy found himself looking everywhere he could for any sign of Michael. He checked the mall, the arcade, and even went back to the school to see if he was just camping out in the bathrooms or something.

Still, there was no sign of Michael.

Jeremy knew where he would eventually have to look. He was prolonging the event by looking in places he might've found him in the past, but to no avail. He knew he would have to go to his house. I mean, where else would he look other than his own house?

Jeremy didn't realize how fast he was walking until he almost walked onto open traffic. He was broken out of his trance when several cars honked at him, a few angry drivers even rolling down their window and cussing the Jewish boy out. He stumbled out of the street and back onto the sidewalk, clutching his chest. His head was reeling from alcohol pulsing through his veins.

It felt like years before the crosswalk sign lit up, Jeremy nearly booking it to the other side of the road. He didn't stop running til he reached Michaels house, sweat running down his back with each step he took. He eventually made it, panting and heaving like no tomorrow.
