Gilbert entered his home, placing his belongings beside the door. The house seemed surprisingly still. It was usually filled with the sounds of baby cries of Delphine and the display of affection from Mary and Sebastian, but now silence. He walked towards the dining table, the chest was still there. With a sigh, he sat down staring at the chest. 'Who else did father associate himself with?' Looking at the box he noticed a piece of paper sticking out of the bottom. "Curious," he muttered and gently lifted the box to its side. While messing around trying to get the paper out, a part of the bottom popped off. The paper fell out and revealed an engraving on the bottom. Before Gilbert had a chance to look at the markings or paper, the front door burst open, with a giggling Mary, grinning Sebastian, and Delphine asleep.
"Oh! Gilbert! Didn't know you were home."
"Um. . . yeah."
Mary and Bash looked at each other and started giggling once more. "Okay. . . What is happening?"
"Hmm?"
"Why are you two giggling so much?"
"Oh, nothing, nothing at all!" Mary replied walking off with Delphine. Gilbert was now even more suspicious. Looking back at Sebastian, he noticed the baskets of groceries he was holding and a letter that looked eerily familiar. Shoving the paper that he found he walks forward to help Bash.
"Let me help you with that."
"Oh, thanks," Sebastian said handing him a basket.
"So, what is all this, for?" Gilbert asked.
"Ah, nothing, just... nothing." Gilbert sighed in frustration and walked off to his room. Laying on his bed he thought about the offer and the paper map, Anne-- The paper! Gilbert took it out from his pocket and unfolded it. It was a map, of Avonlea, well not quite all of it. The map only had certain places on it, and they had different names than the ones Gilbert was informed with. Some places Gilbert recognized as areas his father had taken him and would love visiting and others he had never heard of in his life, let alone seen. Turning the map over he saw the words 'For my best friend and maybe in the future I could take you to the mountains instead.' It signed off with the J.B initials. Johnathon Blythe. His father. Who was this for? Wasn't his mother that's for sure, who else was his father's friend? Of course! How could he be so stupid?! Marilla! Marilla--
"Gilbert! Dinner is ready!" with that Gilbert lost his thought and gained his appetite.
Wait. "Why was I thinking of Anne?"
