~Kaede POV~
So far the rest of Catra and Adora's school day had gone pretty well; their class had a small project they could do with partners and of course Adora and Catra had worked together although apparently someone else had wanted to work with Adora but she had been polite and said she was working with Catra. "You always work with Catra though." The student had complained and Adora rubbed the back of her neck as she looked towards Catra.
"Well yeah because no one else is gonna be her partner and what if the partner Ms. Razz assigned her with is someone who doesn't like her?" Adora explained as the student looked towards Catra.
"No one else but you likes Catra!" The student called and Catra tightened her grip on her pencil and I put a hand on her shoulder as I gave her a reassuring smile -but that didn't seem to do anything since she had only looked back to me with a weak smile and then back a the student who wanted to work with Adora. Although even if those words were hurting Catra, Adora went up to her and wrapped her arms around her tightly as if she had been protecting her... Protecting both of them.
As Adora began to tear up a bit she looked back at the student with a fierce spark in her eyes. "I don't care if I'm the only real one who likes Catra! She's my friend!" Adora spoke out to the student who only crossed their arms and looked to Catra with a disgusted look on her face; but I thought back on what Adora had said. The only real one who likes Catra... Even though she didn't mention me exactly, she knows I'm imaginary and only real in their eyes. At least, that's what I hope she meant.
The student stomped off after sticking their tongue out at Catra. It wasn't fair... It's not right... They don't know... These girls are going through such horrible things... But I do and that's what's important since I'm always going to be there for them. I looked to Adora and Catra then sat in the chair next to Catra as I pointed to the medium sized paper on the table. "So, what's this project about?" With that statement Catra's face lit up again as she looked to me with her bright, cute smile.
"The project is supposed to be about our family and who they are-"
"What they do." Adora commented as she looked to me with the same beaming smile.
"Ya-huh! And since me and Adora are like sisters and Shadow Weaver is like our mommy-"
I felt my heart skip a beat at the sound of Catra calling Shadow Weaver their mom. "No she's not!" I called out and covered my mouth after saying that. Catra looked at me with a confused expression and Adora looked around the class as if she hadn't a clue on what I was saying. I know that these girls hide the fact that they've been abused but I just couldn't just say nothing knowing that Shadow Weaver wasn't a mother figure at all -from what I had first seen the day I was created, to Adora saying they have 'weird nights' in the house... I just know that she isn't a mother figure at all. "I mean..." I began to say as I lowered my hands from my mouth. "Don't you know that mothers are supposed to treat their children well?" I asked cautiously and Catra hesitated to answer and only looked down at the paper and began to draw.
Clearly she didn't want to believe that Shadow Weaver wasn't a good mother figure although I had seen her draw something oddly familiar as to how Shadow Weaver had looked... Although what could I expect except for the fact that I didn't think Catra would actually draw Shadow Weaver in their project. Adora helped with coloring the drawing and it turned out to be pretty good, although it still hurt to see that the two did see Shadow Weaver as their mother -especially as I saw Catra writing Shadow Weaver's name along with the slash sign saying it had been their mother. I couldn't do anything... I just couldn't...
It hurt...
It hurt so much...
"Let's draw Kaede since she's like our big sister!" Adora called and I gasped a bit as I noticed Catra nodding in agreement.
"Yeah! She can be holding your hand if you want." Catra said and Adora nodded in response as I looked to their project and they began to draw me... Again... I chuckled a bit as I felt a lump in my throat for tears but I didn't let it get out. Catra looked to me with a smile which quickly faded into a concerned look once she saw my expression and she grabbed my hand tightly. "Kaede, what's wrong?" Catra asked and I shook my head as I let some tears roll down my face but I wiped them away quickly.
I gave Catra a smile as I faced her. "Nothing, I'm fine." I assured and Catra looked a bit worried but Adora put a hand on her shoulder and gave her a smile. The three of us ended up working on the project together and it ended up really amazing -well, in its own way I mean. All that was left was to present it.
