donghyuck decided to visit the old graveyard again.

it wasn't unusual for him to do so. in fact, he would visit every week at least once. he had been for six months, ever since he roamed to this part of the city.

donghyuck had seen the dull grass turn lighter in the spring, where the rain would provide the nourishment needed for the change. he had survived the whole hot summer, where bugs would be out, especially at night. now it was fall and the weather was turning colder, the leaves changing their color, and the nights would be colder.

the ground mushed beneath the boy's feet as he walked on the wet grass. a light drizzle made donghyuck's hair and skin slightly damp as he walked, hands in the pockets of his old coat. he swore he felt some water get into his old, torn up shoes.

donghyuck watched, reading each gravestone for the millionth time as he passed each one. the names meant no importance for him; they were only people he could imagine in his mind. some gravestones were large, some tiny. some new and shiny, but most were moldy and chipped, showing their age.

donghyuck didn't come here for a reason. it was the only was he could get an eerie sort of peace away from the city. here he could be alone and just dig himself deeper into the grave he was digging himself in.

the boy, barely in his twenties, sat on a stone at his waist level and ran his tan fingers along the chipped edging. he felt the moss under his fingertips, wet and mushy. donghyuck studied the moss under a cloudy gaze, tilting his head ever so slightly.

a rumble sounded and a flash of lightning appeared behind donghyuck's head. the boy didn't flinch as he looked at the sky and heavier rain started dropping on his face. donghyuck stood up and made his way out of the graveyard, running his fingers along the black metal gate as he exited.

donghyuck was able to make his way back to the heart of the city as the rain began to pour heavier. around him, people carried around umbrellas, guarding them from the downpour. donghyuck pulled his ragged hood up and hoped that was enough to keep him from the cold.

he made his way to a tunnel in the ground meant for draining water from flooded banks. donghyuck had a tolerance for a slight rainfall, the only problem in the tunnel would be the sloppy mud. a downpour was a bigger issue because the tunnel would flood and donghyuck would have no place to sleep.

the tan boy climbed in the tunnel, going to the very center of the darkness and feeling around as he felt his blanket, the only source of light being the moon. he patted the slightly dirty blanket down and smoothed it out. donghyuck plopped himself on it and leans against the cool metal wall of the tunnel.

he could barely see inside the tunnel, but the boy's sensitive eyes were used to the tunnel as he had learned to adjust over the weeks. this home had been his longest yet, with his time here being almost a month. donghyuck, when feeling confused about when he had started living in his tunnel, would always turn to the moon. he had discovered the hiding place when the moon was full. now the moon had gone through a whole cycle and would be full again.

donghyuck liked the sky. he loved stargazing. he had learned to tell directions by the sunrise and sunset when he had started living like this. he had gotten into the night sky because living in the wild required some sort of entertainment, even if it was just staring at the sky.

donghyuck's first night homeless was intimidating and nerve wracking. he was scared, a little hungry, and confused. he had taken a look at the sky and for the first time saw all the stars.

he had never taken the time to appreciate the sky before it had happened.

"donghyuckie! stay by me!"

his mother was always overprotective of him, as he was her only child. especially like this.

a man barged down the front door. the poor door had always been feeble, as had been the whole house. a group of men followed behind this man, giving him backup.

"donghyuck, go to our room. climb out the window."

his mother sounded frightened. she didn't sound like herself. she pushed back the teenager with incredible strength, who was just as tall as she was.

"mom, i-"

"shut up!" one of the men yelled from the door. donghyuck stood like a deer caught in headlights.

"go, donghyuck!" screamed his mother, shoving him back again. donghyuck hit the ground with a hard thud. he looked up.

he saw his mother surrounded by the men, one had his gun pointed to her head.

that was the last time he had ever seen his mother.

donghyuck woke up with a silent scream and covered in sweat. he was drenched in his own sweat and fear. he always had nightmares like this, they weren't uncommon since his mother... since he last saw her.

donghyuck glanced outside the tunnel and thank god the rain had stopped. he didn't want to relocate again. he stepped outside the tunnel, nearly stumbling from his dream and slipping on the water and mud that collected at his feet. he used the side of the tunnel to steady himself.

donghyuck stared up at the sky. he slept under the stars that night. he always did when he had another one of his nightmares.

donghyuck fell asleep and prayed to no one he wouldn't dream again.
