the day of the surveying, donghyuck was instructed to sleep by mark since they would survey the other mafia's territory and the land around it during the night. the only problem was that donghyuck was nervous and unable to sleep. a part of him looked forward to his part of the mission but another part of him dreaded it. he tossed and turned in his bed, checking his phone and seeing it was 4:28, which was still too light outside to go to survey.

giving up, donghyuck walked out of his room and down the hallway. he passed by jisung, who he greeted and nearly ran into the tall boy, who was chasing after chenle. donghyuck, knowing his way around the house well, avoided johnny and ten's room because god knows what they do in there and went to where he remembered mark's room being.

it was at the end of the hallway on the very top floor, secluded from all the other rooms of the house. donghyuck stood at the tall door and gave a few knocks.

mark answered the door in only black shorts and no top on. his hair was damp and it was obvious he had just gotten out of the shower. donghyuck tried to avert his eyes from his figure but failed because mark had really good abs. he was practically drooling at the man's physique.

"donghyuck ah! you- no one's supposed to be up here!" mark scolded.

donghyuck practically was drooling over mark's body. "donghyuck!" mark snapped.

donghyuck squeaked in surprise. "oh, i- sorry!" he said quickly apologized and began to scamper away.

his waist was grabbed by a hand. donghyuck didn't dare turn around as mark was right behind him now, as he could feel the man's warm breath against the back of his neck. "i didn't say you were no one." mark reminded him. he turned around donghyuck carefully and walked him to the room. "stay," he said.

"y- you're shirtless," donghyuck mumbled, embarrassment in his voice.

"why are you here?" mark changed the topic.

donghyuck was still eyeing mark's body. he only noticed there was a faint scar above the man's right hip, right in his side. the younger kept his eyes glued to it. "where's that from?" his curiosity got the best of him.

"you're staring?"

"i just glanced... it's not that noticeable, i-"

"gunshot. 17. my dad, he shot me."

donghyuck stared. "but why?"

mark looked at him with those dark eyes, as if they reflected his similarly dark past. "i disobeyed, he shot."

donghyuck decided not to question mark anymore about it as the leader sat on his bed. donghyuck sat beside him when mark patted the bed. "i answered your question. my turn," mark announced, eyeing donghyuck. "why are you here?"

donghyuck avoided eye contact, choosing to stare at an unframed picture laying on mark's nightstand, just skimming over it as he talked. "couldn't sleep..." suddenly, he saw who was in the photo. a picture of himself, eyes bright and a wide smile on his face as he appeared to be animatedly talking about something directly to the camera. "wait, is that me? how did you get that-"

"i have my ways." was all mark said before turning the picture face down.

somehow donghyuck was touched by mark keeping his photo and he couldn't help but smile slightly as he looked at the ground. he looked up at mark, almost shyly. "you're very mysterious, mark lee."

mark's dark eyes bore into his. they were deep and dark, like water... a dark ocean. they seemed to shine like the stars when he looked at donghyuck. "i am," he whispered, unconsciously leaning his face towards donghyuck's.
