Death's Promise

Pain has struck my aching chest;
And I fear the time has come
When my world and dreams may crumble down,
And my days slip to eternal glum.

I wish to see why I weep
The black, desolate nights away.
No sympathy, no one should see
The numb I carry though the day.

Must I find the fractured path
That may release me from this room?
But I do not know where to turn
To escape the place where nightmares loom.

Shadows haunt mangled body's
And comfort them when they fall.
Please understand they can't be saved
'Til the day Death consumes them all.
