Kristin's POV:
The more I tugged on the luggage in the trunk of the car, the heavier it felt. I was so exhausted after the trip that carried on for far too long, even though I may or may not have fallen asleep in the middle of a game of I-Spy with my sister in the car. Speaking of my sister, where did she run off to?
I looked up to see that my brother and dad were in the middle of what appeared to be one of their intense arguments, and rolled my eyes. I turned to see my sister staring at the house across the street, but before I had the chance to call for her, I saw a boy walking towards me, and MAN was he good looking. This had to be the most handsome boy I'd ever seen in my life and... wait a minute... HE'S GETTING REALLY CLOSE. My heart was beating out of my chest as I realized this boy was about to approach me.
"Kristin?" He asked, although it seemed more like a statement. Like he already knew exactly who I was. My mam winked and walked off. I guess she took that as her cue to leave.
"Yes?"
"I should probably introduce myself before I creep you out like I did your poor sister. I'm Shawn Mendes. I live across the street."
"Ah. Well, nice to meet you Shawn." I tried to flash my most beautiful smile, but I think it just made me look like I was coming on a little too strong.
I don't think he noticed though, because he just flashed a smile back.
"So I see you've met our stalker,"my sister smirked as she approached.
I was so relieved to see my sister. She always knows how to make an awkward or uncomfortable situation much easier. I instantly relaxed.
Shawn just laughed and rolled his eyes. I thought my heart might explode; how can a guy be so cute?!
"You need some help with these bags?"
He looked at our small amount of luggage in the trunk, and I could tell what he was thinking.
"This isn't all of our stuff. The rest should arrive some time this week. This is all that we could carry with us on the plane and fit into the rental car," I tried to explain to him.
"Yeah. I totally can't wait to sleep in a sleeping bag for days,"my sister jokingly added.
Shawn picked up two bags and began to walk towards the porch to set them down. I could see the wheels turning in my sister's head. I wondered if this had anything to do with why she was staring at the house across the street for so long. She approached Shawn.
"Hey, you never mentioned it, so I was just wondering if you had any sisters or bro-"
"Well, it's getting late, so we best head inside and finish up here tomorrow. You girls have a busy day ahead of you," my dad announced, interrupting Cecilia's question.
Shawn set the bags down on the porch, and continued to introduce himself to the rest of the family. At least my dad and Cameron weren't arguing anymore, although you could still sense the tension in the air. Just as we were about to head inside, Shawn approached Cecilia and me.
"So, are you guys starting at Oceanview tomorrow?"
I had already forgotten that we had to start at a new high school tomorrow and couldn't help but cringe at the thought. To make matters worse, our parents already enrolled us online, so that meant we had to start classes as soon as we got there. It was bad enough that Cecilia and I had to leave in the middle of sophomore year, but poor Cameron left in the middle of his senior year.
"Unfortunately,"Cecilia groaned.
Shawn told us that he was a senior and the classes that he was taking. Turns out that we don't have any classes together. That's just great. The only friend that we've made in Cape Elizabeth, and we won't even get to see him at school. Looks like we'll be needing to make some friends on our own.
We talked until the sun started to set, and then we decided that it was time to head inside, so Shawn started to walk back to his house.
"Good luck tomorrow guys," Shawn smiled,"I know you'll do great."
Tomorrow should be interesting.
