:Third Person POV:

"Steven?"

Steven turned around and Spinel stood a couple feet away from him. Steven got on his feet but was quickly pulled into a tight hug. Spinel wrapped her arms around him three times, holding him a foot off the ground.

"Steven it's been so long, where have you been?! I missed you so mu-"

"Sp-Spinel... too.. tight.."

Spinel looked at Steven; her grip was so strong, he could barely breathe. Spinel let go as soon as she realized and Steven landed on the ground with a thud.

Spinel spoke, "Steven.. I'm so sorry.. I just-"

Steven begun to stand up.
"It's okay, Spinel. I understand."

Spinel's fear faded. "But really, what have you been doing for so long? It felt lonely on Homeworld.."

"Oh.. sorry about that. It's pretty busy back on Earth with what happened a couple years ago."

Spinel remembered her catastrophic first visit to Earth.
"Oh, right.. Was trying to forget what I did but guess you never forget, right?"

Steven sighed and muttered out a "Yep". With all that his mom did and recently with Connie leaving him, the guilt is only building on itself at this point. Thinking about it only made things worse.

Spinel knew something was wrong with him.

"Hey.. Are you okay?" Spinel asked.

Steven, dragged out of his thoughts, responded, "Yeah, you don't need to worry about it-"

"Well, I am. We could talk about it.." Spinel interrupts. Now she's skeptical.

"Spinel, I said I'm fine."

Now it was clear he was lying.

Spinel continued to verbally push him,
"Steven... you can tell me. I can help you."

Steven restrained himself from continuing. Snapping was the last thing he wanted to do. Plus, fighting would be useless.

"Okay, okay.. I don't want to fight over this.." He looked out into the distance.

Spinel walked over to the stairs to the warp pad and sat down. "We don't have to go in depth or anything.. I just don't want to see you this sad."

Steven sat next to her. "Oh, it would take too long to tell the whole thing-"

"I don't want the whole thing. Just.. what's happening right now?" Spinel looked at him.

"Right now?" Steven sighed, "There's a murder case that's been escalating recently, but that's not the main thing at all."

Spinel chose to just wait for a response. Steven recognized it and continued,
"..I used to have a girlfriend-"

"What's that?"

Steven remembered; Most gems don't understand this 'human stuff'.

Steven answered. "Well.. it's like someone you're more than friends with."

Spinel looked surprised, "You can be with someone like that?"

Steven nodded. "Yeah.. but she.."
"..S-She left me.."

He had trouble getting the words out of his mouth. It still deeply upset him.

Spinel heard the pain in his voice and replied, "Oh.. that's.."
"...that's terrible.."

Steven nodded silently.

Spinel looked at the remainder of the dead roots and shrubbery in the garden. She remembered when Pink Diamond had left her in the garden; That never left her mind.

"I.. get that feeling.."

Spinel looked up at Steven. He stared at the bottom steps while tears rolled down his face. He had a blank expression, but Spinel could almost feel his sadness.

"I'm.. I'm sorry.. I didn't know.. I would've come sooner if-"

Steven wiped his tears and tried to shed the rest. "Spinel.. i-it's not your fault. Don't be sorry about anything.."

Steven looked at Spinel and embraced her. She was surprised.

"You cared.." Steven retracted from the hug, "..and I needed to get that off my chest..
Thank you."

Spinel smiled, "No problem.. just wanted to help.."

"So.. you're going to have to go back to Homeworld, right?"

Spinel was about to reply when she remembered why she came there. They might've already found she were gone.

Spinel laughed nervously,
"Well.. I kinda ran away.."

"You did?" Steven asks, nervous.

Spinel hesitated to admit her reasonings, though continued, "The gems at Homeworld hate me.. and they're going to come after me, I know it. Didn't know where else to go but here to hide.."

Steven replied almost instantly, "You can stay with me."

"Ye- Wait, really?"

"Of course, me and my friends can help-"

Spinel interrupted, "Steven, no one else can know I'm here. They'll make me go back."

"..That's fine. You could just stay in my room until things clear up." Steven replied.

Spinel smiled, "Thank you.. but we really should get going right now. Just in case."

Steven smiled back.
"Good idea."

The two of them stand up and walk to the garden's warp pad. It lights up and takes them away in a beam of light..
