"Miss Terrin? Please stay behind after class. I must talk to you."
My head snapped up at Miss Taylor's words and I stared unblinkingly at her emotionless face, while she waited expectantly for an answer, "Miss Terrin?"
"U-uhm yes miss." I looked down at the worksheet on my desk, blinking away the tears that threatened to slip from my eyes. Why would she want to talk to me? Was it something to do with my grades? D-did I get an A-?!
That last thought had me freaking out internally, my mind racing a thousand miles per hour and I was sure that a panic attack was building up, when my breaths were coming out in shallow pants. My hands had begun to shake and I knew it was useless trying to complete the sheet when I couldn't even hold my pen properly.
Class ended quicker than I would have liked, the bell sounding loud and clear as it pulled me away from the thoughts that were maliciously eating at me from the inside.
I remained seated at my desk, allowing the rest of my classmates to leave before I looked up at my teacher.
She smiled at me, and suddenly I was confused. Why was she smiling if I had gotten a bad grade on my exam?
"Miss Terrin, you know that you are our top student. Your grades are absolutely spectacular, higher than anyone we've ever taught in our school." She laughed slightly, her smile growing a little and my heart fluttered ever so slightly. So this couldn't be about a bad grade...
"Anyways dear, we have a new student who wishes to take this class, even though they've been advised multiple times against it."
I blinked, quiet for a moment, "I-I don't mean to be rude miss, but what does this have to do with me...?"
"Ahh right, keeping me on track? Thank you, Miss Terrin!" She winked at me and I smiled back, unable to keep her contagious positive energy away from me, "Well since our new student has started in the middle of the year, we need someone to help them catch up with all the work that they've missed from the past four months so that they're not behind."
I nodded slowly, still not understanding and Miss Taylor must have noticed that because she sighed loudly and pinched the bridge of her nose in a joking manner.
"Miss Terrin, we'd like you to tutor him."
