"You gotta do the dare, (L/N). Or you kiss me." Jean smirked from across the small circle forming on the ground and I scowled before rising to my feet. My friends were all listening to hear how I'd respond and I was just so tired of living right now.
What looked like the ninth circle of hell for me had started out as a pretty innocent game of truth or dare I'd organised in order to make up for my absence during the past few days. My friends had enthusiastically gathered in my room and we'd gone over the rules of the game once. Then Reiner suggested something none of us had objected to at the time - refuse the dare/truth, kiss the person giving it to you. Seemed like a funny idea at the beginning. Wasn't one for me right now.
"Never in a million years, horse-face. I'm going." I stepped over Eren and Sasha before reaching the door and hearing some of my friends giggle under their breaths. Eren was frowning more than I was, which should've been a pretty big clue as to who my current dare included.
"Make sure you do it properly," Jean called out mockingly, making me snort spitefully as I stepped out of the room and reminisced about how well this game had started out. Eat this, call this person, admit this, jump from there, run from here to there - all stuff everybody could laugh at. Then Sasha asked me a question about Levi Ackerman and suddenly everybody seemed to get the idea to tease me about that when their turn came. Jean was simply the first of the few stepping over the line big time.
"Fuck him. Fuck them all. It's all too early for me to do this." I stomped down the hallway towards the elevator furious and rather nervous. My palms were clammy and I was thinking of ways to avoid going through with the dare Jean had given me. His taunting words echoed in my head still. "Since you and this Levi Ackerman seem pretty close, I say go and fetch his phone number for us. Should be no big deal if you're such good friends." I sincerely wanted to rip his head off for a second back there.
"Well, you would've done it one way or another at some point." Ghost Levi shrugged next to me, making my shoulders jump in mild surprise before I snorted and got into the elevator with the ghost following suit. I was afraid of going through with the dare. It was something too bold for me to do this early into what I was yet to call proper friendship, and it was something I doubted he'd humour even if we were friends. There was no way in hell he'd comply even if he felt some pitiful kind of interest for me, or more like, my relation to him and his original life.
"But I don't feel comfortable doing it now." I argued stubbornly, hugging myself as the ghost next to me pressed the correct button and the elevator doors closed. I glanced at him in nervousness, my teeth were gnawing on my bottom lip and my eyebrows were furrowed in diffidence. "It's like straight-up hitting on him and he himself said we're still far from being friends." My voice became squeaky and the original shook his head as the elevator doors opened and we walked out.
"Just try your best and don't be too awkward." He advised with a pat to my shoulder before poofing, leaving me alone in front of the hotel door on the fifth floor I hadn't anticipated I'd ever come to knock on. I braced myself for the awkwardness before telling myself this was nothing more than a dare I wasn't allowed to confess. I needn't act like a smitten high school girl, but then again---
"Hi. Um..." My stuttering highness was met with the sight of four upperclassmen when the door opened.
The guy standing in front of me was a tall blonde, the same one whose twin I'd seen when the whole pack had been together. On the beds behind him stood the energetic brunette and Levi and Petra, with the strawberry blonde's head leaning on the raven's shoulder. The breath got caught in my throat and my smile couldn't get any more uneasy. Levi's austere eyes bore into mine as my lips pursed, resolve slowly crumbling in spite of the fact I'd already come this far. Running off with my tail tucked between my legs would simply make me look more like the smitten highschool girl I didn't want to be.
