NATHAN'S POV

I staggered to my car as scenes from years back, flash across my eyes. I didn't want it to happen again. I wanted everything to fall in place.

Back then, I didn't take my time. I thought I had found everything, but I was wrong. Only if I had taken my time... but I didn't.

I want to have patience this time. Allow time to tell. I'll take my time because I found something very precious. I found Eve.

The drive home wasn't easy either. Everything was blur and shaky. The cars surrounding me seemed to be floating. I couldn't drive any longer. I parked in a bar nearby to calm down.

I sat in my car quietly as these intense scenes went on and on in my head. I gripped my steering wheel very hard to clear these images. I sat for about a minute and everything was back to almost normal.

I exhaled deeply and sped off straight home. I wasn't quite okay but I could see where I was going. My apartment wasn't far from the street I was on.

I reached and parked my shiny Camaro in a discreet spot. I stumbled into my apartment. My sweaty palms obstructed me from locking the door. After I finally did, I threw my body on the couch and went right to sleep.

THE NEXT DAY

I struggled to open my eyes as the veins in my forehead tightened. I lifted my sticky body off the couch. I looked at myself and surroundings mysteriously.

Why was I in the same clothes from yesterday?

I managed to walk to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the clean mirror above the sink. My eyes were bloodshot and my face was awfully pale.

They came back! That's why I look like this!

I splashed a handful of cold water on my face to lessen to redness of my eyes but to no avail. I made my way into the bedroom, with face and palms, still dripping wet.

I scanned through the room, before fully entering. I sat on my bed, rubbing my eyes with my palms. Feeling very sweaty, I took a warm shower.

Sprays of lukewarm water came running down the shower head. I stood underneath it, trying to wash away those haunting memories.

After a long and refreshing shower, I headed back to the bedroom. I wore the most comforting clothing I could find. In search of my phone, I headed to the hall.

There it was, lying on the green sofa that Eve liked. Eve! I hurriedly opened my phone and checked for any new messages.

EVE: 'Nathan, are you okay?'

EVE: 'Hello?'

EVE: 'Please let me know if anything's wrong.'

I texted her back with trembling fingers and sweaty palms.

NATHAN: 'I'm fine! I'm sorry if I said or did anything upsetting.'

I awaited her reply with eagerness. I hoped I didn't say anything I wasn't supposed to say. Anytime I tried to recall yesterday's events, my head would pound even harder.

Then, I heard my notification tone.

EVE: 'Thank God you're fine! No, you didn't say anything. Don't worry about it.'

I hope she's right. I exhaled warm air deeply, knowing nothing upsetting happened. We texted back and forth and everything seemed fine.

I went over to the kitchen, to make a bowl of colourful cereal. I poured cold milk over the cereal and devoured all of it. At this time, I was more than full. I sat down on the still clammy couch and replied to Eve.

NATHAN: 'Okay. Would you be free later tonight?'

I want to see her. I want to make sure everything's alright. If I had any explanations to do, I'd rather do it looking into her ocean blue eyes.

Eve didn't reply and I got very concerned.

Why isn't she saying anything? Did I say something I wasn't supposed to say?

I got up and wandered slowly up and down the hall, as my mind was flooded with several thoughts.

Should I go to her place now? Should I wait for her reply? What did I even say?!
