Chapter 12: Waiting

Somewhere in Britain
Unknown building
March 7
1400 hours
I slowly forced myself to pry my eyes open. Surprisingly, there were no after effects to that sedative SPYDER injected us with. I tried to stretch, but found out that my hands were tied behind my back. I turned my head to the right. Erica was against the wall right next to me, Zoe was next to her, and Mike was on the other side of Zoe.
"Are you all awake?" I asked. They all nodded in response to my question. "So do you have a plan for getting us out yet?" Mike questioned. I sighed. "I'm working on it." Erica shushed us. "Someone's coming." She warned. I moved my gaze back to the metal bars in front of us.
Joshua and Murray stood in front of the bars, sneering down at us. "Why are you here?" I asked, figuring that I might as well use this time to try to snoop.
"We we're bored so we wanted to see if we can get any information about the CIA out of you." Murray snickered. Joshua had his eye and fingerprint scanned, then waved a badge in front of another scanner, and then pulled out a key that was on a chain on his wrist, and used it to unlock the door. That was a really complicated security system, I observed, I felt even more discouraged that I had felt before. Erica sighed exasperatedly, I got the feeling she felt the same as I did. Mike was the only one of us that still looked hopeful.
Joshua walked over to me and Erica. He leaned down and pulled both of us to a standing position. "Tell us everything that happened in the Academy of Espionage during the past month." Joshua demanded. Erica glared at him and kept her mouth shut. He turned to me, and I copied Erica, shuttling my mouth and fixing Joshua with my coldest glare.
"You're going to tell me what I want to know!" He screamed in our faces. He let go of me and pinned Erica to the wall. He began to lean in. It was the first time I had seen Erica so scared. "Leave her alone!" I exclaimed. Joshua growled  and shoved me to the side. I hit the metal floor with a painful thud. "Ben!" She called anxiously, "Are you alright?" She asked. I nodded. "Now tell me what I want to know!" Joshua shrieked. He leaned in closer to Erica, who was pressed against the wall. Then his phone rang. He checked it and groaned. "Murray we've got to go, we have a meeting about Operation Aries."
He walked out of the room and Erica sank to the floor, her face drained of color. I was worried. "Do any of you have any idea what Operation Aries is?" I asked. They all shook their heads. I sighed, then turned to Erica. "Are you ok? You're really pale." "I-I'm fine." She stuttered. She shook her head. "Don't worry."
I wasn't convinced but I let Zoe change the subject. "Let's go over the information we have." Zoe said. We all agreed. We went over our information and then decided to try to talk to the guards, and try to get some information. Erica had calmed down by now and her face was back to it's normal color. "Alright. Me and Ben can talk to the guard on the right, Mike and Zoe can talk to the guard on the left." She said. We dragged ourselves over to where we were supposed to be. And waved the guards over. "What do you want kids?" The guard asked gruffly. "Hey, we were just wondering," I started. "You don't seem to like your job much. Why won't they put you in the field?" Erica finished. "Well, they just said I wasn't good enough to be in the field for this plan, but after it's over, I'll be promoted. They said the operation was guaranteed to be a success." With that he turned around and began chatting with someone standing next to him.
"That guard was an idiot, for someone working for SPYDER." Erica said. "Ours was really stupid too." Mike reported. "He gave us all the information we asked for." Zoe explained. "We have to consider the possibility that they were lying to us." Me and Erica said at the same time. Mike smirked at us. My face turned tomato red. "Mike!" I whined. He laughed, "What? I'm bored. We have to do something to have fun until we get out of here." He said. We all leaned against the wall and began our wait.
