I've finished it! I have read what is written of reviving a fallen ghost. It can be done! I can get Hermes back!
Now, I just have to hope it works. He writes about how he managed to do it. That it worked and the ghost was brought back.
There is a knock on my door. Everyone has been careful to leave me be the past month it took me to finish. Erebus knew how to write long chapters. He goes on and on, sometimes even repeating himself. It makes it difficult to read.
I've been writing out his sentences to help me translate. It takes a lot of time.
"Eres." I look up. My door opens and Hermina walks in. I frown. Wasn't my door locked? I was almost positive it was.
"I see you've reached the chapter about giving the ghost a solid form." I nod. "Yes. How did you know?" She smiles and walks closer. "I was there when he wrote this book. Well, not this particular chapter. I saw it after."
I nod. "So that means you know if he really did manage? Did it really work?" She looks out my window. Almost sad looking, and like something dramatic is about to happen.
"Yes, it did work." I smile. "That's great!" She looks at me. "He brought me back. And he used his strength to give me this form. I am like a human, but I cannot be killed like one. The Ghosters cannot kill me either. He wanted to protect me. There was another that he did this to, but slightly different." I frown.
She was killed as a ghost? That's how she's survived all these years? That must be hard for her. To not be able to be with her family.
"There are two ways to give the solid form. One is to give a permanent one, like me. The other will cause the person to revert into being a ghost if the one that gave them the solid form dies. When my brother died, many others reverted into ghosts. I was the only one that remained."
I nod. "I see. Then you guarded the tree?" She smiles and turns to me. "My brother was torn, his spirit shattered so that not even a ghost of him remained. Sometimes though, I feel as though he is with me. Watching over me."
She closes her eyes.
I set a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sure he is. He worried and cared enough about you to give this chance to you. I'm sure, whatever happened to him, he still watches over you. Protecting you in his own way." She nods. "I should go. You have much work ahead of you."
She walks out of the room. When I reach the door, it is locked. I frown. How did it open then?
With a sigh and a shake of my head, I open the book. One part reads, "You have the power to give spirits a solid form. The power to make them like humans, but stronger. To let them be seen and heard by everybody, yet not be killed. This knowledge, this power, I give to you. May you use it wisely."
I read on. Finally I set the book down. I can do this. Sitting on my bed, cross legged, I close my eyes and focus. Concentrating on the energy within me, and reaching out to feel for the energy of others. I reach out with my mind. Feeling for him. Searching. He has to be around here somewhere.
