They were never in fact, homeless

Lucifer's second flight was much smoother. He held Sam gently in his arms, his soft feathers brushing Sams arms in every downward beat. Sam looked up, tracing his chiseled features with her eyes, admiring the angelic power shining from his eyes and the beautiful concentration on his face. He felt her gaze and glanced down, giving her a cheeky half smile-  which she returned, making him blush. Unlike last time , the landing was slow and controlled. Blinking and waiting for the momentary dizziness to wear off, she looked around.

The sky was bloodshot, streaked with deep red and orange, the sun sinking below the horizon in blazing glory. In the dimming light, she could see a small cottage sitting in the shadow of two rolling green hills. From this distance, Sam couldn't really see it very well but even from that distance it was evident that it was in a bad state of disrepair.

"Its not much...but.." Lucifer started

Sam turned around a placed a finger over his lips. "Its perfect." she said firmly.

"I..I didn't realize what a bad state it was in...." he murmured. " I haven't been here for years.."

"We'll fix it up!" exclaimed Sam excitedly, turning to take the landscape in "Make it just right for us."

Lucifer looked at Sam, she was staring out over the hills with an hope and excitement painted all over her features, the light of the sunset glinting in her eyes and her long brown hair moving in the cool evening breeze. He was sudden;y overtaken by her beauty, how lucky he was to be here and share this moment with her. Reaching out, her gently moved a rouge hair that was blowing across her face. She turned to face him, considered his battle scarred face for a few moments, and then suddenly kissed him.

He flinched in surprise, and breathed in, taking in her familiar perfume. Her lips were soft against his and, surprising himself he returned her kiss leaning forward and bringing his wings round in a feathery embrace, shielding them from the wind which was suddenly cold and picking up speed. They molded together, fitted against one another with stunning perfection. Sam had never felt as she did now, exploring the taste of him. Feeling the strength of his arms around her, protecting her from the world she had grown to hate. Inhaling sweat and leather and woodsmoke. His scents. She felt as though she’d found a moment of forever. Like this was how they should’ve always been. Slowly, she withdrew, starting to shiver and giggling through her chattering teeth.

"Luci, is this your doing?" she asked, hugging herself and making a general gesture to the drop in temperature,

He blushed "I can't help it, its just something that happens"

"I like it" she replied winking mischievously and then turned and started to stride down the hill. He caught up to her and tried to hold her hand, failing miserably as she pulled away, not even glancing at him. The battle hardened hunter she had been forced to be  showing through and the shy, hopeful, curious girl beneath disappeared under layers of grief and loss.  Lucifer wasn't fazed by this, understanding that he wasn't the only one who was broken inside...he wasn't the only one to have to abandon who he could have been..."slowly" he thought, smiling to himself. "i'll fix you, slowly and gently, i'll make everything okay"

"I believe you." Sam's voice intruded into his thoughts, warm and happy despite her cold body language, "We'll fix each other."

Lucifer stopped, astonished. Sam turned around to face him, flashing him a red stained smile while tucking an empty glass vial back into her jacket. "Last one." her voice echoed again into his brain. "Last one ever...hopefully." she ended her voice fading as the power of the demon blood waned.

He sighed contentedly. The first small steps to recovery.

Three months passed peacefully. The mundane life fitted both, neither wanted to venture back into the black depths of the world they had left behind. The house, though drafty and slightly scuffed in a few places, cleaned up nicely. Lucifer made makeshift furniture using the increased amount of power from his new grace to obtain wood and shape it. Walls were painted and devil traps hidden beneath carpet. The odd booby trap even added, for it wouldn't be the home of the devil and a hunter without a trap or two.

Life was simple for the first time in years, no life threatening jobs, no demons, no monsters. Only Sam and Lucifer, united in their little home, learning to live a life without sorrow. Learning to love.

But how long could it really last?
