Life seemed empty without him.
Little details reminded her, everywhere she went it was the same either a remnant of him or Dean.
She couldn’t escape these ghosts. They weren’t ones to be vanquished with fire and salt, they would follow her forever opening the scars that could never heal.
Sam would wake in the middle of the night, drenched a cold sweat, tears streaming from her eyes. The moment his eyes had met hers, gentle and peaceful, glowing a soft baby blue before they closed forever, haunted every waking hour.
Michael had vanished, leaving his body. Leaving Dean to get at her.
Only what used to be Dean had left her alone, preferring to let her drown in misery then to kill her.
Who knew where he was now.
She had thought about ending it then. Finally there would be no one to stop her. No one to bring her back.
But he wouldn’t have wanted that. So she remained.
Flowers didn’t seem right at the grave. The bare wooden cross, held together with an old belt would have to do. He would have laughed in spite of it all.
It had taken her a long time to decide that she wouldn’t be sad anymore. After years of depression, heartache and pain it had taken his death to make her realise she didn’t have to be that person anymore.
She could be the girl on a road trip with her brother. Pranking each other along the way. Doing a job that saved lives, a job that ran in their family for generations.
But Dean was missing.
But that didn’t matter anymore. She would fix this mess. Get things back to how they used to be. Be the girl she had left behind. Take up the title of hunter again.
Fix Dean.
Starting the engine of the Impala, its throaty roar reminding her of the good old days, she drove away from the cottage. Leaving it and what happened there to the wind.
Fingering the amulet around her neck, scratching at the blood stains marking its little face, she started a new chapter.
A chapter with a happy ending.
And she would never forget.
